Pacquiao: Either Mayweather fights me in 2013 or not at all

Image: Pacquiao: Either Mayweather fights me in 2013 or not at allBy Chris Williams: 33-year-old Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) is setting a limit of 2013 for a mega fight against unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s).

Pacquiao said to primerahora.com “It [Mayweather fight] will be in 2013 or never.”

Pacquiao shouldn’t even be talking about fighting Mayweather at all, period. Not with Pacquiao having a fight against Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s) on December 8th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Boxing: Week review – Huck-Arslan, Gavin-Witter, Prizefighter

Boxing’s weekly round-up (WC. 29.09.12)

Whilst there weren’t any huge fights to get us going this week, we did have some good contests over the course of the week that were worth taking note of and that is what I will be discussing, focusing predominantly on the Lucian Bute, Marco Huck fights with some of the British boxing action being mixed in.

Walsh amused that people see Ricky Burns whipping him on December 15th

By Scott Gilfoid: For some reason #13 WBO Liam Walsh (13-0, 10 KO’s) is pleased that boxing fans are seeing him as just another one of WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns’ typical fodder opponents for their December 15th fight at the ExCel Arena, Dockland, in London, United Kingdom. This makes the 26-year-old Walsh happy because he believes it’ll take the pressure off of him in this fight so that if fights well he’ll surprise some people.

Mike Perez: “Return of the Rebel”

By Jack Tarpey: As if from out of nowhere Mike “the rebel” Perez is back, after months of probing the web for any updates whatsoever of what has become an enigma of the heavyweight division he finally re-appears and might I add he has appeared to have bagged himself quite a match up in former WBA champion Ruslan “white Tyson” Chagaev, Perez was relatively unknown before last year’s Prizefighter tournament where in the words of Julius Caeser ‘he came, he saw, he conquered.‘

Boxing, performance enhancing drugs and contradictions

By Mark Havey: The integrity of boxing is in disarray. Fans are questioning the quality of the system’s set up to catch drug cheats. The biggest questions for me is this, how prevalent is the use of PED’s in boxing? How many of our champions and hero’s are secretly and intentionally giving themselves a advantage. Of course everyone that tests positive has an excuse.

Roach pleased with Pacquiao’s physical fitness

Image: Roach pleased with Pacquiao's physical fitnessBy Chris Williams: Just like with his last two training camps, trainer Freddie Roach is very pleased with how his fighter Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) looked in his first day of training with him on Monday at the Wildcard Gym in Los Angeles, California.

Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz told Philboxing.com “[Roach] is very happy at the condition Manny showed iup in and he’ll spar six rounds on Tuesday.”

Pacquiao, 33, is getting ready for his December 8th fight with Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. This will be the fourth fight between them and Roach is hoping Pacquiao will be able to knock Marquez out this time to remove any doubt about who the real winner should be.

Dulorme-Abregu, Vazquez-Quintero & Mayfield-Herrera tonight

Image: Dulorme-Abregu, Vazquez-Quintero & Mayfield-Herrera tonight(Photo By Carlos Baeza / Thompson Boxing) By Jim Dower: #3 WBA welterweight contender Thomas Dulorme (16-0, 12 KO’s) will be stepping up in class tonight in a scheduled 10 round bout against the hard hitting 28-year-old Argentinian Luis Carlos Abregu (33-1, 27 KO’s) at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, in Verona, New York, USA.

This is a big test for the knockout artist Dulorme because Abregu is a considerable step up from the types of fighters that he’s been facing during his four year pro career. The best that Dulorme has fought thus far are guys like Charlie Jose Navarro, Aris Ambriz and DeMarcus Corley. Dulorme didn’t look all that great against Corley and was hit hard on a number of occasions in winning a lopsided 10 round decision.

It’s Rainone-Cannon for Americas title

Image: It's Rainone-Cannon for Americas titleBy Mike Stafford: The NHL owners have locked out the players, so the New York Islanders have yet to step foot inside Nassau Coliseum. Then came the news this week that those very same Islanders — Long Island’s only major sports franchise – are moving to the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

But alas, there is some good news for Long Island sports fans. Promoters Bob Duffy and David Schuster give you professional boxing on Nov. 1 at the Plattduetsche Park Restaurant in Franklin Square. The card features some of Long Island’s best boxing talent. The main event pits Hicksville’s Tommy Rainone against Missouri’s Robbie Cannon in a 10-round bout for the IBA Americas welterweight title, a match being sponsored exclusively by Knockout Pest Control. Rainone, one of the Island’s top ticket sellers, returns to Long Island for the first time in almost four years. During his time away, Rainone has fought in Madison Square Garden and was on the first-ever card at the new Yankee Stadium.

Michael Moorer talks about his career, training Ryan Coyne and ‘Find A Dream’

By Ian Aldous: After a professional career spanning just over twenty years, former light-heavyweight and heavyweight world champion, Michael Moorer (52-4-1) can look back upon his time in the ring with great pride. Now he continues to use his boxing skills to help prepare Ryan Coyne for his upcoming world title fight and his life skills as a board member of ‘Find A Dream’. This week Michael took some of his time to talk with me.

Doping, Lance Armstrong and the lessons for boxing

By Babatis Banda: Lance Armstrong has been formally stripped of the seven tour titles he won in his career. As far as the tour is concerned, the victories never happened, and Armstrong has no place in cycling history. The nightmare will not only end here for Armstrong, there will be painful financial consequences as the sponsors and organisers all line up to claim what is now being termed, ‘ill-gotten rewards’. This could add up to tens of millions of dollars.
