By Jason Kim: HBO’s fight card on June 25th is going to be one of their better ones of the year with former WBC/WBO light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (21-1, 13 KO’s) facing knockout artist Lucas Matthysse (28-1, 26 KO’s), IBF junior middleweight champion Cornelus Bundrade (30-4, 18 KO’s) defending his title against challenger Sechew Powell (26-2, 15 KO’s), IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud (22-0, 12 KO’s) making his third defense of his title against Yusaf Mack (29-3-2, 17 KO’s) and 6’6″ heavyweight contender Ray Austin (28-5-4, 18 KO’s) taking on the hard hitting Bermane Stiverne (20-1, 19 KO’s) in a WBC title eliminator bout. The fights will be taking place at the Family Center Arena, in Saint Louis, Missouri.
Flashback: Archie Moore Profiled
By John F. McKenna (McJack): Archie Moore was born on December 13, 1913. Archie was a native of Benoit, Mississippi and was raised in St. Louis, Missouri. Moore frequently found himself in trouble as a youth and wound up in a reformatory which he was released from in 1934. He was one of the most colorful boxers in boxing history, and was always a crowd favorite. Archie was universally loved by boxing fans, particularly later in his career.
Leal defeats Marroquin, Zbikowski destroys Warner
By Jim Dower: In something of an upset, previously unbeaten and highly hyped 21-year-old featherweight prospect Roberto Marroquin (19-1, 14 KOs) was beaten in a huge upset by journeyman Frankie Leal (16-5-3, 9 KOs) by a 10 round split decision loss at WinStar Casino, Thackerville, Oklahoma. The final judges’ scores were 99-92, 96-94 for Leal, 97-93 Marroquin. Leal came into the fight not having won a fight in the past two years. However, he changed his lucky by taking the fight to Marroquin, shutting his left left eye and cutting him.
Is an “interim” champion considered to be as legit as the real champion?

An interim champion was supposed to be crowned when the champion was ill or injured been unable to defend his title, but as soon as the champion came back both were matched so there would be only one champion in the Boxing Organization.
Agbeko suffers injury, fight with Mares is off
By Jim Dower: IBF bantamweight champion Joseph Agbeko (28-2, 22 KO’s) won’t be able to defend his International Boxing Federation title this Saturday night in Showtime’s Bantamweight tournament against challenger Abner Mares (21-0-1, 13 KO’s) due to Agbeko suffering a case of sciatica after a long plane ride. Agbeko collapsed shortly after the plane flight and was face down on the canvas unable to move for a short period of time. He was then taken to a nearby hospital and has been ruled medically unable to fight for Saturday night against Mares.
Golden Boy edging Top Rank?
By Robert “Big Moe” Elmore: The boxing world certainly was shaken up with the losses of Juan Manuel Lopez and WBC champ Andre Berto. In terms of emerging stars, Golden Boy has the edge. If they handle their business right, they can produce three to four cash cows. For Arum, it might take a little longer. He has a nice stable of fighters. But as of right now, he’s riding the Pac Man until the wheels fall off.
