Cotto is the #2 pick for Golden Boy to put in with Canelo after they make an effort to get the #1 guy Floyd Mayweather Jr. to face Canelo.

Cotto seems to be interested in facing Alvarez, and why wouldn’t he? It’s a big money fight if Mayweather isn’t available to fight Cotto again or Manny Pacquiao doesn’t show any interest in fighting Cotto at the full weight for the junior middleweight division.

By Chris Williams: 33-year-old Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) is setting a limit of 2013 for a mega fight against unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s).

Pacquiao said to primerahora.com “It [Mayweather fight] will be in 2013 or never.”

Pacquiao shouldn’t even be talking about fighting Mayweather at all, period. Not with Pacquiao having a fight against Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s) on December 8th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

By Chris Williams: Just like with his last two training camps, trainer Freddie Roach is very pleased with how his fighter Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) looked in his first day of training with him on Monday at the Wildcard Gym in Los Angeles, California.

Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz told Philboxing.com “[Roach] is very happy at the condition Manny showed iup in and he’ll spar six rounds on Tuesday.”

Pacquiao, 33, is getting ready for his December 8th fight with Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. This will be the fourth fight between them and Roach is hoping Pacquiao will be able to knock Marquez out this time to remove any doubt about who the real winner should be.

By Mike Stafford: The NHL owners have locked out the players, so the New York Islanders have yet to step foot inside Nassau Coliseum. Then came the news this week that those very same Islanders — Long Island’s only major sports franchise – are moving to the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

But alas, there is some good news for Long Island sports fans. Promoters Bob Duffy and David Schuster give you professional boxing on Nov. 1 at the Plattduetsche Park Restaurant in Franklin Square. The card features some of Long Island’s best boxing talent. The main event pits Hicksville’s Tommy Rainone against Missouri’s Robbie Cannon in a 10-round bout for the IBA Americas welterweight title, a match being sponsored exclusively by Knockout Pest Control. Rainone, one of the Island’s top ticket sellers, returns to Long Island for the first time in almost four years. During his time away, Rainone has fought in Madison Square Garden and was on the first-ever card at the new Yankee Stadium.
