Bellew vs. Chilemba II: Will the judges get it right this time?

bellew33By Scott Gilfoid: WBC Silver light heavyweight strap holder Tony Bellew (19-1-1, 12 KO’s) and Isaac Chilemba (20-1-2, 9 KO’s) went at it last March with fight being dominated by Chilemba from rounds eight through twelve, but with one of the judges seeing Bellew as the winner by a 116-115 score and another scoring it 114-114 even.

The only just that appeared to be scoring the fight the right way had Chilemba as the winner by a 116-112 score. Unfortunately, Chilemba will have to fight Bellew again in their fight scheduled on May 25th this month on the undercard of the Carl Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler II fight card at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Why isn’t Canelo calling out Golovkin or Andre Ward?

canelo44By Dan Ambrose: In his recent win over WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout last month, WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) scaled in at 172 lbs after rehydrating for the bout after making the 154 pound limit a day earlier.

That’s 18 pounds of rehydration weight that Canelo gained back, and obviously that can’t be good for the human body to strip off that much water weight in dehydrating and then putting it back on within 24 hours to fight. The 172 pounds puts Canelo squarely in the light heavyweight class, because the 168 division ends at 168 and anything from 169 to 175 is considered a light heavyweight.

Corley: Guerrero is a dirty tactics fighter; Mayweather beats him

Robert Guerrero(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Former WBO light welterweight champion DeMarcus Corley doesn’t understand why Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) is wasting his time fighting Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) instead of someone more talented.

Corley just sees Guerrero as a dirty fighter that will try and rough Mayweather up to get a win like he did against Andre Berto last November.

Guerrero, a southpaw, thinks Mayweather has problems against southpaw fighters due to his struggles against Corley and a prime Zab Judah in the past. However, Corley doesn’t agree with Guerrero at all, and he doesn’t see Guerrero as having the skills to give Mayweather problems.

Speaking with RingTV, Corley said “Guerrero has no similarities to me and Zab…he don’t have no skill. All he has is winning any way he can, dirty punches, rabbit punches. He’s just a dirty tactics fighter…I don’t see why Floyd is fighting him.”

Pianeta with only a punchers chance of beating Wladimir

WK-CAMP-4-2013-DAY-7-FIGHT-WEEK-DAY-public-workout_MG_4557-copy(PHoto credit: K-MG) By Allan Fox: Francesco Pianeta (28-0-1, 15 KO’s), the former sparring partner for IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (59-3, 50 KO’s), says he’s spotted Wladimir’s weaknesses from their sparring sessions and he intends on using his knowledge to defeat the 6’6” Ukrainian this Saturday night in their fight at the SAP-Arena, Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

I hope for the 6’5” Pianeta’s sake that his plan is for him to try and KO Wladimir because that’s about the only chance Pianeta has in winning this fight. He’s not going to be able to out-box Wladimir because he doesn’t have the hand-speed, jab or the power to win by a decision.

Schaefer: Khan may move up to 147 for his next fight in December

khan1010By Scott Gilfoid: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says there’s a chance that Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) may move up to welterweight starting with his next fight on December 7th in Las Vegas, Nevada. They’re tryig to decide whether it would be best for Khan to fight the winner of the Lucas Matthysse – Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia fights or if Khan should just move up to 147 straightaway and take on IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander.

Khan’s last fight against former IBF lightweight champion Julio Diaz last Saturday night took place at a catch-weight of 143 pounds.

Schaefer said to RingTV “It’s going to be either the winner between Danny Garcia and the Lucas Matthysse-Lamont Peterson winner…we’re going on December 7th…either Khan against the winner of those or to have him move up to welterweight.”

Does Khan have a misplaced belief in his own power?

khan24523Before you read this article I want it to be known that I am a huge fan of Amir Khan. The excitement his fights bring have been unmatched on these shores since Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton, whether you watch his fights to see his lightning speed paralyze yet another opponent or you tune in to see him suffer yet another devastating loss, no one can question Amir is pure entertainment.

After reading many articles about how suspect Amir’s chin is, I question, is this the biggest floor in the many attributes the talented 26 year old has.

No one questions his speed, heart or his devotion to the sport.

Audley Harrison announces retirement

audley77By Jamie Eskdale: As British heavyweight Audley Harrison announces his retirement from boxing following a 1st round knockout loss to Deontay Wilder last Saturday night, lets have a look at his career.

Mention Audley Harrison’s name to boxing fans and non boxing fans alike and you would most likely be met with a snicker. ‘A Force’ or A Farce as most people referred to him seemed to have it all but where did it all go wrong?

Audley was a highly accomplished amateur and boasted a record of 46-8. Harrison won Gold at the 1998 Commonwealth games and Gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics creating a real buzz about him. He was awarded an MBE from the Queen soon after and turned professional landing a reported 10 fight £1,000,000 from the BBC.

Has Virgil Hunter improved Amir Khan?

khan53By Stevie Ocallaghan: After last Saturday nights fight with Amir Khan v Julio Diaz, I have been trying to figure out if new trainer Virgil Hunter has actually improved Khan, and I don’t think he has.

For me Khan is always best going forward, sure there is the vulnerability regarding his chin, but the punches that floored him would have floored anybody else in the division.

Hunter has really came to note with his work with Andre Ward. Ward is a great defensive fighter and defence was probably the reason why Khan decided to work with Hunter.

When did a loss signal the end of a career?

By Sean David: There seems to be a popular school of thought these days that a loss, not even a hard loss can is the end of a fighters career. I would love to know where this train of thought came from. Sadly the time I see these types of comments come up is in the childish tit for tat between the Floyd Mayweather Jr. and many fans.

Guerrero: I’m not one of Mayweather’s hand-picked opponents

Robert Guerrero(Photo credit: Esther Lin) By Dan Ambrose: For Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) he feels that it’s important that boxing fans know that he’s not just one of the safe fights for Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) that has been selected to keep him undefeated. Guerrero believes in his mind that he’s been picked out for his talent, and not because he’s considered a slapper without power at 147.

Guerrero said on Tuesday: “For one, I’m not one of Mayweather’s hand-picked opponents. We’re not making an attempt. We’re going to come out victorious on Saturday night. We Latinos have pressure all the time. We have pressure when we fight all the time. We’re going to come out and take care of business. All you’re going to hear is ‘May Day, May Day, Guerrero’s in the ring.’ That’s it.”
