Hughie Fury vs. Danny Hughes on December 14th for WBC junior strap
By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (12-0, 7 KO’s) will be out of action until next month when he returns to the ring to fight Danny Hughes (11-2-2, 3 KO’s) for the WBC junior heavyweight title on December 14th.
Fury, 19, was supposed to be fighting Hughes on November 16t for the WBC strap, but unfortunately Hughie suffered a cut over his left eye last night in defeating David Gegeshidze (10-5-2, 2 KO’s) by a 4th round TKO at the City Academy Sports Centre, Bristol, Avon, United Kingdom.
Hughie Fury stops David Gegeshidze in 4th round TKO
By Scott Gilfoid: Hughie Fury (12-0, 7 KO’s) picked up his 7th stoppage of his still young career with a harder than expected 4th round TKO win over 32-year-old David Gegeshidze (10-5-1, 2 KO’s) at the City Academy Sports Centre in Bristol, UK. The fight was stopped after Hughie hit the badly out of shape Gegeshidze with several clubbing right hands to the head in the 4th. The referee stepped in and waived it off rather than letting Hughie try to finish the pot-bellied Gegeshidze.
Hughie had suffered a cut over his left eye in the 4th round when he leaned into a right hand from Gegeshidze and got nailed right on the eye. As far as the knockout goes, it was more of a product of Gegeshidze being totally gassed out than him being hurt from any of Hughie’s shots because he didn’t show any power at in the fight, and Gegeshidze had no problems taking his best shots.

By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (11-0, 6 KO’s) continues with his improbable chase of Mike Tyson’s heavyweight record for the youngest heavyweight champion in facing little known David Gegeshidze (10-4-1, 2 KO’s) at the City Academy Sports Centre, Bristol, Avon, United Kingdom. This isn’t much of a step up for young Hughie from his last two fights against Dorian Darch and Hrvoje Kisicek.
About the only thing that you can see as a positive in this fight is that the 32-year-old Gegeshidze at least has a winning record, which is more than you can say about a lot of Hughie’s past opponents. However, Gegeshidze’s victories have come against opposition with absolutely terrible records, so you pretty much have to throw out all 10 of Gegeshidze’s past wins and see him as an 0-4-1 fighter.
Why are World champions matched so carefully?

George Foreman years ago in a discussion with other great heavyweights said that a Champions main responsibility is to hold on to that Title for as long as possible. Meaning that fighting some easy fights in between tough fights is a must for any Champion. Champions are entitled to easy fights and big paydays with the occasional tough challenging fight against a top Contender. Champions are not going to fight the top 5 fighters in order to please fans and keep the boxing world happy.
Abdusalamov recovering from stroke
By Allan Fox: Russian heavyweight contender Magomed Abdusalamov (18-1, 18 KO’s) reportedly suffered a stroke on Sunday while recovering from surgery to remove a blood clot on his brain following a 10 round decision loss to Mike Perez last Saturday night at Madison Square Garden, in New York.
Abdusalamov is currently on a life support system in the intensive care unit at Roosevelt Hospital in New York. Abdusalamov’s medical bills have been mounting since he was admitted to the hospital on Saturday night, and his purse for the fight was $40,000.
Abduslamov hospitalized after loss to Mike Perez
By Allan Fox: #4 WBC Magomed Abdusalamov (18-1, 18 KO’s) has reportedly been hospitalized following his 10 round unanimous decision loss to Cuban Mike Perez (20-0, 12 KO’s) last night at Madison Square Garden in New York. Abduslamov suffered a nose injury, a bad swelling on his left side of his face, a cut over his left eye in the fight. The judges scored it 97-92, 95-94, 97-92 for Perez.
Gabriel Montoya of Maxboxing.com said this on his twitter “I’m told Magomed Abduslamov is in stable condition in the ICU [intensive care unit]. They are hopeful for his recovery…Prayers for Abdusalamov, who is fighting for his life following last night’s loss.”
Campbell and Coyle thrill the Hull fans

Hughie Fury faces David Gegeshidze this Friday
By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (11-0, 6 KO’s) will be taking another incredibly small step forward with his career this Friday night as he continues to chase Mike Tyson’s record to try and become the youngest heavyweight title holder ever when he faces David Gegeshidze (10-4-1, 2 KO’s) in a scheduled 6 round bout at the City Academy Sports Centre, Bristol, Avon, United Kingdom. I’m starting to worry that the 19-year-od Fury won’t be able to break Tyson’s record because Tyson was 20-years-old when he beat WBC heavyweight champion Trevor Berbick in 1986 to capture the WBC title.
If you look at the kinds of opposition that the 6’6″ Hughie is fighting now, I just don’t see him being able to make the leap from facing the likes of the 32-year-old Gegeshidze and Hrvoje Kisicek (5-6, 1 KO’s) to suddenly fighting for and capturing a world title within a year. I mean, maybe I’m not seeing something here in terms of the match-making.
