Reality Check For Austin Trout

Image: Reality Check For Austin TroutBy Mark Uliano: In two weeks WBA Junior Middleweight champion, Austin Trout, will step into the ring for the biggest test of his career against Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO) at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. A lot of boxing writers on multiple outlets are giving Trout (25-0, 14 KO) a legitimate chance to come out of the December 1st fight with his title and undefeated record still intact.

There is always the punchers chance when it comes to boxing, but when people are telling me outright that he is going to easily beat Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto I think they really need to step back to reality.

Pacquiao thinks Cotto will beat Trout; could fight him next year

Image: Pacquiao thinks Cotto will beat Trout; could fight him next yearBy Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao said today during his telephone conference call that he sees former three division world champion Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) defeating WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) in their fight on December 1st.

More interesting than that, Pacquiao says he could wind up fighting Cotto next year. For that to happen, however, Cotto will definitely need to beat Trout because it’ll look silly if Pacquiao fights another guy coming off of a loss. Pacquiao fought Joshua Clottey in 2010 after Clottey had been beaten in his previous fight against Cotto. Unfortunately, I can still see Pacquiao fighting Cotto even if Cotto loses to Trout. That would be two straight losses for Cotto if he gets beaten by Trout, as Cotto lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr. by a 12 round unanimous decision last May. But I can still see Cotto getting a fight with Pacquiao next year simply because it would make money.

Cotto-Trout undercard a REALLY weak one

Here’s what the undercard has:

Trout: My jab will be a problem for Cotto

Image: Trout: My jab will be a problem for CottoBy Dan Ambrose: WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) has already figured out just what he needs to do in order to control the shorter 5’7″ Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) on December 1st, and that’s by jabbing him silly and taking advantage of his much longer reach and height when they fight at the Madison Square Garden in New York, New York.

Trout said “I’ve got a good bead on how he [Cotto] fights and I know my jab will be a problem for him, but I will have to put a lot of leather on him.”

Cotto-Trout undercard looking a little thin

By Dan Ambrose: The Showtime televised Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) vs. WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) undercard on December 1st is really hurting in a big way as the fight approaches. As of now the undercard has the following fights: Daniel Jacobs vs. TBA and Jayson Velez vs. TBA. That’s dreadful.

Trout has sparring session with Margarito to get ready for Cotto

Image: Trout has sparring session with Margarito to get ready for CottoBy Dan Ambrose: WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) reportedly had a sparring session recently with former two time welterweight champion Antonio Margarito according to primerhora.com to get ready for Trout’s December 1st title defense against 32-year-old Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) at the Madison Square Garden, New York, New York, USA.

Trout, 27, isn’t making a big deal out of the sparring session like some boxers would in a similar situation. Trout knows that Margarito and Cotto are two completely different fighters, so it’s not as if he’s going to get a lot from the bit of sparring. However, what Trout can get from Margarito is valuable tips in how to defeat Cotto, because Margarito had Cotto taking knees left and right in their first fight in July 2008.

Austin Trout’s jab will be a problem for Cotto’s scar tissue

Image: Austin Trout's jab will be a problem for Cotto's scar tissueBy Dan Ambrose: WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) has one of the best jabs in the junior middleweight division and he’s got the arm length to deliver it without getting hit in return. On December 1st, Trout is going to have the opportunity to see what his jab can do to the scar tissue around his opponent Miguel Cotto’s eyes when they meet at the Madison Square Garden, in New York, New York, USA.

Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) has suffered numerous cuts around both eyes during his long 11-year pro career and it’s like a field full of lines and cracks from where he was cut in previous battles. Cotto has lost only three fights but he’s been slicked up badly in many of his bouts and he’s not that great of a fighter once he sees his own blood. The southpaw Trout will have a big advantage if he can get Cotto bleeding in one or both of his eyes from his jabs.

Miguel Cotto turns 32 today

Image: Miguel Cotto turns 32 todayBy Dan Ambrose: Former three division world champion Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) turned 32-years-old today and that’s getting up there a little in age. Cotto has a fight on December 1st against the younger WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) at the Madison Square Garden, in New York, New York, USA.

Cotto took a loss in his last fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. last May and he’s hoping to get back on the winning track against the bigger and younger Trout. It could be that Cotto is going to find out that he made a big mistake in taking this fight. Trout is young and hungry, and he’s not going to let an aging multi-millionare like Cotto take him down before he’s gotten a little taste of the big cash.
