Bu Jason Kim: WBC/WBO middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (45-2-2, 24 KO’s) is interested in fighting a rematch against Antonio Margarito (38-6, 27 KO’s) if former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (36-2, 32 KO’s) doesn’t use the rematch clause he has in his contract with Martinez for their last fight on April 17th. In that fight, Martinez gave Pavlik a boxing lesson, defeating him by a 12 round unanimous decision and taking both of Pavlik’s middleweight titles. Martinez, 35, would prefer not to have to fight Pavlik again, because there are potentially more lucrative fights out there for Martinez like Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Margarito.

Margarito wants bout with Pacquiao
By Dan Ambrose: It’s not surprising that Antonio Margarito (38-6, 27 KO’s) now wants a fight with Manny Pacquiao after beating Roberto Garcia (28-3, 21 KO’s) by a 10 round unanimous decision last Saturday night at the Plaza Monumental, Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, Mexico. Due to his hand wrap scandal, you would think it’s impossible for Margarito to get a fight with Pacquiao. However, he stands a very real chance of getting a fight with Pacquiao if the Filipino’s fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn’t materialize. Margarito’s bout against Garcia drew over 17,000 fans this weekend.

That’s Arum’s number #1 choice, since it’s a fight that will make huge amounts of money for both fighters. However, there’s a good chance that the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight won’t happen because of the Olympic style blood testing that Mayweather wants both fighters to take.

By William Mackay: Former IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron (32-3-1, 28 KO’s) wants a rematch with Paul Williams (39-1, 27 KO’s) after losing a 4 round technical decision on Saturday night at the Home Depot Center, in Carson, California after falling out of the ring in the 4th round and landing on a ringside table. Cintron, 30, had the air knocked out of him after hitting the table. Cintron wasn’t hit with a punch, but rather he tripped over the leg of Williams and then fell out of the ring. Williams had fallen on the canvas himself.

Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, says he’s not going to be giving any concessions to Mayweather in terms of blood testing, according to news from Insidesports.ph> Instead of agreeing to have the blood testing for a potential Mayweather-Pacquiao bout to stop at 14 days, like Mayweather wants, Arum says that the testing will stop at 24 days.

Martinez was stopped in the 7th round by Margarito 10 years ago, and wants to settle the score with Margarito. A fight between the two of them would be huge bout if Margarito can get his boxing license back. Bob Arum from Top Rank would likely be able to put the fight in the Cowboy Stadium where it would probably do at least as good as Manny Pacquiao’s recent bout against Joshua Clottey, which brought in 50,000 fans.

Martinez never avenged that defeat, and instead moved on with his career but failed to find big time success until eight years later when he captured the World Boxing Council light middleweight interim title with an 8th round stoppage of Alex Bunema in 2008.

By Jim Dower: According to the LA Times, World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao’s promotional team Top Rank is looking to put Pacquiao in with one of the following fighters in his next fight: Edwin Valero, Antonio Margarito or Juan Manuel Marquez. They also have mild hope that undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. will come around to the negotiating table, but no one is counting on that happening. For Mayweather to fight Pacquiao, he will probably have to drop his desire to have Pacquiao take the Olympic style random blood tests that Mayweather has been insisting on.
