Sprott wants Anthony Joshua bout

joshua45By Scott Gilfoid: High level journeyman heavyweight Michael Sprott (40-21, 17 KO’s) is very interested in facing the young and totally untested heavyweight prospect Anthony Joshua (5-0, 5 KO’s) if his promoter Eddie Hearn will let the 6’6″ Joshua fight him. Sprott, 39, already pulled off an upset Olympic super heavyweight gold medalist Audley Harrison in 2007 in halting him in 3 rounds, and he’d like to add Joshua’s scalp to his resume as well.

Joshua captured a gold medal in the super heavyweight class in the 2012 London Olympics, although Joshua’s gold medal win was high controversial due to many boxing fans feeling like he’d lost most if not all of his contests in the Olympics.

Anthony Joshua faces Avila this Saturday in Glasgow, Scotland

By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight Anthony Joshua (4-0, 4 KO’s) will be taking a slight step up this Saturday night against Hector Alfredo Avila (22-15-1, 14 KO’s) in a fight at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. The soon to be 39-year-old Avila is a definite step up from the guys that Joshua has fought since turning pro in 2013, but not a big enough step up to where it means anything.

Anthony Joshua rates Chisora above him in class

joshua673By Scott Gilfoid: 6’6″, 242 lb heavyweight prospect Anthony Joshua (4-0, 4 KO’s) says he sees fellow Brit Dereck Chisora (20-4, 13 KO’s) as being above him right now and he doesn’t have any plans on facing him anytime soon despite Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn being keen on having him beat Chisora and Tyson Fury in the near future to clean them out of the way.

“It’s early days and I can’t complain,” Joshua said to Sky Sports. “I feel like I should be performing the way I am performing at the minute but I’m not getting ahead of myself. I know it’s going to get tougher. I think Dereck is well above me right now. I look up to him rather than looking at him as an opponent.”

Fury sees Anthony Joshua as an easy mark for him and Chisora to thrash

joshua673By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) thinks Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is making a big mistake in trying to push 2012 Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua (4-0, 4 KO’s) quickly in an attempt to match the 6’6″, 243 lb fighter against Fury and Dereck Chisora. Hearn wants to get the Primo Canera-like Joshua against Fury and Chisora, and Fury sees this as a huge mistake on Hearn’s part.

Fury believes that the slow-moving, easy to hit Joshua will be sparked out by both Chisora and himself once he gets thrown in the ring with them. Fury would rather Hearn wait until Joshua has an inflated resume before he puts him in with him, because he wants the fight to be bigger with the British public rather than him fighting Joshua with having just a small handful of fights.

The Future Of Heavyweight Boxing

joshua55By Olly Campbell: Okay, now might be a good time to forget what you think you know. Who is heir apparent to the heavyweight scene? Sure, lots of names are in the melting pot; Arreola, Stiverne, Fury, Jennings, Helenius, Pulev, Chisora etc. The list goes on and on. Yet these are guys who are looking to dethrone Wladimir Klitschko, and I wish them luck with that. No, my piece today is about a guy who is set to DETHRONE them. It is of course the hottest property in heavyweight prospects, Anthony Joshua.

Tomorrow night in Cardiff, Wales, on the undercard of Selby vs Munroe on the Matchroom Sports show, Joshua goes into battle for just the fourth time against a hometown fighter called Dorian Darch (7-2). In an interview today for IFLtv, Darch hinted at his cannon fodder expectations, whilst praising highly the man he knows he has no chance of beating.

Hearn: Anthony Joshua will be ready for Chisora and Fury by the end of 2014

joshua536By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn thinks British heavyweight prospect Anthony Joshua (3-0, 3 KO’s) will be ready to take on the likes of Dereck Chisora and Tyson Fury by the end of the year. Hearn is really high on the 6’6″ 2012 Olympic super heavyweight gold medalist from London Olympics. Hearn thinks that Joshua has the skills to compete with world level fighters despite his lack of quality fights since he turned pro.

“He [Joshua] feels that he’s ready to take those fights [Chisora and Fury] now,” Hearn said to Sky Sports. “Certainly at the end of this year, I think he will be in a position to take those kinds of fights. He’s an incredible talent.”

Anthony Joshua wants to fight 8-10 times in 2014

joshua55By Scott Gilfoid: 2012 British Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua (3-0, 3 KO’s) says he’s hoping to be able to fight as much as 10 times in 2014. He wants to stay really busy so that he can improve his British ranking.

The 6’6″ Joshua started his pro career in October of last year, and he quickly won three fights by November, beating Emanuele Leo, Paul Butlin and Hrvoje Kisicek. However, while training for a December fight against Dorian Darch (7-2, 1 KO’s), the 24-year-old Joshua suffered a shoulder injury, making it necessary for him to postpone the fight until February 1st at the Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom.

Anthony Joshua suffers shoulder injury, fight with Darch postponed

joshua55By Scott Gilfoid: The heavily muscled undefeated British heavyweight prospect Anthony Joshua (3-0, 3 KO’s) won’t be able to make it to his scheduled December 14th fight against Dorian Darch 7-2, 1 KO’) due to a shoulder injury suffered in training. The fight has been rescheduled for February 1st at the Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom.

The shoulder problem could be a lingering thing for the 24-year-old Joshua, who captured a gold medal in the London Olympics in 2012. Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn might want to put the 6’6″ Joshua on the shelf for as long as possible because he doesn’t appear to be very flexible with his heavy muscles, and this kind of injury could linger on and on. When watching Joshua fight, he appears very tight with his upper body, and he seems to lack the snap on his shots due to all the muscles he’s carrying.

Is Anthony Joshua going to go far in professional boxing?

joshua45By Kyle Proctor: Anthony Joshua is the new upcoming superstar of British heavyweight boxing.  For those of you who don’t know Anthony Joshua won a gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics. Joshua is a very clean smart boxer and you can tell by the way he fights in the ring that he has a lot of experience in the amateurs.

This benefits Joshua as he can find his distance and can lands fast jabs very easily. However, this being professional you will find people who box a lot more rougher unlike what he might of seen when he was an amateur.

The main thing for Joshua which stands out to me which looks good is his hand speed and agility for a heavyweight of his size and height. I would have to say he’s faster than David Price, Deontay Wilder, Hughie Fury and Tyson Fury.
