Haye looking past De Mori, wants Joshua fight

haye4By Scott Gilfoid: In something has to make you question British heavyweight David Haye’s motives for making a comeback, he is already looking past his next opponent Mark De Mori (30-1-2, 26 KOs) towards a hoped for clash against British/Commonwealth heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in 2016. Haye faces De Mori next month on January 16th at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Haye, 35, says he’d like to fight the unbeaten 6’6”, 245lb Joshua by the summer of 2016 if possible. This would mean that Haye would likely only have time for his one tune-up fight against the 33-year-old De Mori before he’d go straight into a clash against Joshua in the summer.

Malik Scott: Anthony Joshua is a spoiled, insecure black David Price

joshua567787By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight Malik Scott does not think too much of British/Commonwealth heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs), who he sees as a spoiled, insecure brat, who he sees as a black version of David Price.

Scott doesn’t say why he sees the 6’6” Joshua as another Price, but it’s possible that he might have seen Joshua struggle in sparring when the two fighters were in former heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko’s training camp a couple of years ago.

Scott is not too happy with Joshua after the British fighter chose not to shake his hand after he congratulated him following his 7th round stoppage win over his nemesis Dillian Whyte earlier this month on December 12th at the O2 Arena in London, England.

joshua44By Scott Gilfoid: British/Commonwealth heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) believes he’s got possibly a year and a half before he challenges for a world title against one of the champions.

Joshua, 27, wants to spend the next 18 months working on his boxing skills to try to improve enough to win a world title eventually. Joshua had an uneven performance in his last fight against Dillian Whyte this month, and it’s painfully obvious that he’s going to need to improve dramatically if he wants to win a title.

Dillian Whyte has successful shoulder surgery

whyte555By Scott Gilfoid: In a real surprise, British heavyweight Dillian Whyte (16-1, 13 KOs) has just had shoulder surgery to repair a problem with his left shoulder that occurred during the 2nd round of his contest against Commonwealth heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) last Saturday night.

Whyte said he hurt his left shoulder when he nailed Joshua with a hard left to the head in the second that really hurt him. It’s unclear whether the injury first popped up during the training for his fight against Brian Minto last September, because Whyte completed of having a shoulder injury after that fight.

Hearn: Joshua could face Helenius-Rill winner for EBU title

joshua567787By Scott Gilfoid: British/Commonwealth heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) was thought to be targeting former world title challenger Dereck Chisora next on April 9th at the O2 Arena in London, UK. But now Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn is saying that Joshua could go after the EBU heavyweight title by facing the winner of this Saturday’s fight between Robert Helenius (21-0, 13 KOs) and Franz Rill (11-0, 7 KOs).

Helenius-Rill fight will be for the vacant EBU title at the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland. It was originally supposed to be a fight between Erkan Teper and Helenius, but Teper suffered an injury and had to pull out of the fight.

The 31-year-old Helenius is now considered to be the favorite to win this fight and move forward to bigger and better things. That could be a fight against the 6’6” Joshua if Hearn can make it worthwhile for Helenius to the fight.

Whyte wants Joshua rematch, says left shoulder was injured

whyte555By Scott Gilfoid: Previously unbeaten Dillian Whyte (16-1, 13 KOs) suffered his first defeat of his career last Saturday night in losing by a 7th round knockout loss to Commonwealth heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) in their grudge match at the O2 Arena in London, UK. Whyte’s left shoulder did look injured. If you look at the round in slow motion, you can see that his left arm wasn’t the same after he connected with a big left that hurt Joshua.

Whyte says he wants a rematch to avenge his loss, as he says he suffered a shoulder injury in the 2nd round of the fight after he nailed Joshua with a left hook to the head that staggered him. Whyte wants to fight Joshua when he’s healthy.

Chisora says money must be right for Joshua fight

chisora5By Scott Gilfoid: If promoter Eddie Hearn wants high level journeyman Dereck Chisora (24-5, 16 KOs) to be the opponent for his fighter British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua’s next fight on April 9th, then he’s going to have to make it worthwhile financially for the 31-yer-old Chisora to take the fight, because he says he wants to be paid.

In other words, Chisora isn’t going to take the fight on the cheap just for the heck of it. Joshua would make big cash by fighting Chisora at the O2 and having the fight on Sky Box Office. If Joshua is going to be making big bank, then Chisora rightfully wants to share in some of that loot. He doesn’t want to see Joshua get all that cash and him just getting some small scrapings of leftover green.

Hearn: Chisora is top of list for Joshua’s next fight

hearn4556By Scott Gilfoid: It looks like British/Commonwealth heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn will be looking to take him backwards for his next fight in terms of competition for his fight on April 9th, as Hearn is saying that the 31-year-old Dereck Chisora (24-5, 16 KOs) is at the top of the list for Joshua to fight.

For those who have kept track of Chisora, he’s lost every major fight he’s had in the last three years. Chisora beats the 2nd and 3rd tier fodder, to be sure, but he fails each time he’s put in against anyone decent.

“April 9 is the date when he will return to The O2 and we’re looking for a tough test. There are no steps back now for Anthony Joshua – he needs to keep progressing,” Hearn said to skysports.com.

Haye, 35, was working as one of the broadcast analysts for Sky for Joshua’s fight against Dillian Whyte (16-1, 13 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Haye says he saw flaws in Joshua’s game that he can definitely take advantage of when he gets inside the ring with him. Haye could wind up facing Joshua as early as next year, because Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn seems very interested in making that fight happen.

Joshua not impressive in win against Whyte

joshua44By Scott Gilfoid: As everyone saw last night, Commonwealth heavyweight strap holder Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) did away with Dillian Whyte (16-1, 13 KOs) in stopping him in the 7th round in their big British fight at the O2 Arena in London, UK. I think Whyte is little more than Dereck Chisora 2.0. The win over Whyte proved nothing for Joshua, because he didn’t beat a top quality guy and he got badly hurt in the process. I see Whyte as a slightly bigger version of Chisora, but without his stamina.

In looking at some of fawning press that has been spit out by the media, you would think that Joshua had fought the perfect fight and really shined in the ring while beating the 27-year-old Whyte. I’m sorry but I wasn’t in the least impressed with Joshua. In fact, the lumbering 6’6” over-muscled Joshua did little than affirmed my previous opinions of him.
