DeGale: When I win the world title [against Dirrell] on May 23rd it will open all kinds of doors

degale67 - CopyBy Scott Gilfoid: Britain’s James DeGale (20-1, 14 KOs) believes that his fight next month against American talent Andre Dirrell (24-1, 16 KOs) on May 23rd will be his coming out party when the two of them face each other for the vacant IBF super middleweight title that former IBF champ Carl Froch recently relinquished.

DeGale missed out on what would have been a big payday against Froch, and now DeGale has what some boxing fans see as a tougher task in trying to deal with the speedy quick and powerful Dirrell instead.

James DeGale is on a mission

degale546By Sean Ness: Super Middleweight contender James “Chunky” DeGale (20-1 14 KO’s). The guy is like marmite. You either love him or hate him. In the build up to his British Super Middleweight title fight with his fellow London native and fiercest rival George Groves (21-2 16 KO’S), he was a young guy with a big mouth and showed George nothing but contempt in the build up to their fight.

It was very rare that you heard James give any of his peers respect. He told anyone that was willing to listen that he was the best thing since sliced bread and unless you were living under a rock, you will know that George Groves beat James in a split decision at the O2 Arena in London.

By Scott Gilfoid: In what has been billed as a competitive fight between Andre Dirrell (24-1, 16 KOs) and Britain’s James DeGale (20-1, 14 KOs) could turn out to be little more than a sick mismatch when these two guys go at it 37 days from now on May 23rd in their fight for the vacant IBF super middleweight title at the Agganis Arena, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Froch: I might fight DeGale if he beats Dirrell and looks good

dirrell445By Scott Gilfoid: WBA 168lb champion Carl Froch says he’ll possibly give #1 IBF James DeGale (20-1, 14 KOs) a fight if DeGale defeats #2 IBF Andre Dirrell (24-1, 16 KOs) next month in their fight for Froch’s old IBF super middleweight title on May 23rd at the Agganis Arena, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

The only thing the 29-year-old DeGale has to do is beat Dirrell and look good doing so. It’s easier said than done. The fact of the matter is that DeGale’s chances of beating Dirrell are slim, and his chances of looking good in doing so are even slimmer.

Andre Dirrell vs. James DeGale – A true 50/50?

degale43By Jonathon Fell: A term used all too frequently and to the frustration of many boxing fans is the term “a genuine 50/50 fight” used by promoters across the world, this is clearly a very subjective opinion and some fans will take objection to this and leave them frustrated and feeling shortchanged when they do not feel it is a genuine 50/50. Some boxing fans will understand that fighters being developed such as Anthony Joshua in the UK cannot immediately be flung in to 50/50 fights this early in to a career that has huge aspirations but some fans are underwhelmed when the opponent announced isn’t a top 10 ranked fighter.

DeGale overlooking Dirrell, wants Groves fight afterwards

>By Scott Gilfoid: In a sign that #1 IBF James DeGale (20-1, 14 KOs) is already looking past his next fight against #2 IBF Andre Dirrell (24-1, 16 KOs) for their fight next month on May 23rd for the vacant IBF super middleweight strap, DeGale is talking about wanting to fight #1 WBC George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) or one of the other world champions at 168.

The thing is the only way that a DeGale vs. Groves fight makes any sense at all is if DeGale defeats Dirrell to capture the IBF super middleweight title, and Groves beats WBC 168 pound champion Anthony Dirrell to win his title.
