By Allan Fox: Former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (30-4, 23 KOs) is blaming the poor pay-per-view numbers for his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 23 KOs) last Saturday night squarely on the shoulders of Mayweather. The Mayweather-Berto fight brought in between 400,000 to 550,000 pay-per-view buys, according to sources from Yahoo Sports and ESPN.

Mayweather’s previous fight against Manny Pacquiao brought in 4.4 million PPV buys. However, the fight was a real dud as far as excitement goes, and a lot of boxing fans were turned off by the experience.

Floyd Mayweather has always been insecure about his place in the sports of boxing. Outside of the ring, he had to flaunt around his earnings, his cars, his jewelry etc. When he realized after the dela Hoya fight that the key to getting rich in the sports is the “ppv” factor, he created a persona, even changing his moniker from “pretty” to “money”.

By Chris Williams: Now that Floyd Mayweather Jr. has retired from boxing, he can sit back and watch the fans talking about him and speculating about whether he’ll come back next year to resume his career in 2016.

Mayweather notes that the fans were complaining about how boring he was in his fight against Andre Berto last Saturday night, and in his past fights. Now the fans are missing him, and he’s seeing it all from a far. Mayweather gets to see the fans asking him to come back, and it’s got to be a good feeling for him.

By Allan Fox: It didn’t take former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (30-4, 23 KOs) to start complaining about Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr’s fighting style in order to come up with excuses for why he lost last Saturday night to him by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision on Showtime PPV from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Berto, 32, say he would have needed track shoes for the fight for him to do better in the ring. You have to wonder whether Berto and trainer Virgil Hunter even sat down to watch some of Mayweather’s past fights before they took the fight.

By Allan Fox: Andre Berto (30-4, 23 KOs) was badly schooled last Saturday night by Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26 KOs) in their mismatch at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Berto thinks that he made the mistake of trying to score a knockout over Mayweather all night long, and this was one of the reasons why he rarely was able to connect with any of his punches in the fight.

Berto connected on only 17 percent of his shots in the fight, which is an incredibly low number, given that Mayweather was standing in the pocket right in front of him much of the fight. But Berto fought like he always does by him looking to take Mayweather out with every shot that he threw.

By Robert “Big Moe” Elmore: Thomas Hearns ended his illustrious career against Shannon Landberg. Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. ended his career with a lost to Grover Wiles. Rocky Marciano ended his career against a badly faded Archie Moore. I could go on and on.

These greats have their reasons why they chose the opponents they chose for their last hurrah and most importantly their fans can/will justify their reasons for doing so. But for Floyd Mayweather it can’t be the case and it hasn’t been the case. Almost every major sports outlet, lead by ESPN, criticized Mayweather’s choice of two time former champ Andre Berto.

By Dan Ambrose: For boxing fans who didn’t get a chance to see the interesting High Stakes: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26 KOs) vs. Andre Berto (30-4, 23 KOs) fight card last Saturday night on Showtime pay-per-view, the replay will be shown this Saturday night on Showtime Sports at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

Fans will get to see Mayweather-Berto along with the co-feature bout between WBC super featherweight champion Roman “Rocky” Martinez and challenger Orlando Salido. This fight was very exciting, but the results were less than pleasing with the three judges ruling the fight a draw.
