How come Khan looked so tired and marked up against Malignaggi?

Image: How come Khan looked so tired and marked up against Malignaggi?By Scott Gilfoid: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) stopped Paulie Malignaggi (27-4, 5 KO’s) in the 11th round last Saturday night in Khan’s debut fight in the United States. After only one fight in the U.S. against the fading Malignaggi, Khan’s trainer Freddie Roach has already declared that Khan can beat the other 140 pounders in the division. I don’t know if I agree with that. While Khan did get the win over the light hitting Malignaggi, Khan looked really tired by the 10th round and his face was badly marked up by Malignaggi’s weak shots. I don’t know about what Roach thinks on this matter, but I don’t see this as a good sign.

Why doesn’t Khan fight Victor Ortiz?

By William Mackay: In the latest boxing news, Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions is looking to possibly set up WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) in a fight against lightweight Michael Katsidis (27-2, 22 KO’s) next instead of one of the top light welterweights in the division. My question is why doesn’t Golden Boy put Khan in with the number #2 WBA ranked Victor Ortiz (27-2-1, 21 KO’s) instead?

Khan says he wants Maidana, but will probably fight Katsidis

By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan said that he wants to fight his mandatory WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (28-1, 27 KO’s) next, but the likelihood is that he will be pitted against Australian Michael Katsidis (27-1, 22 KO’s) next. Khan’s promotional team Golden Boy Promotions are interested in putting Khan in with the smaller Katsidis rather than Maidana right now and it’s not hard to see why. Maidana, 5’9”, is closer to the 5’10” Khan’s own size, hits harder and is an incredible puncher and pressure fighter. He can take a heck of a shot and keep coming and would make Khan fight like he never did before.

Kerry Davis thinks that Khan has the ingredients to be a star

By Sean McDaniel: Kerry Davis, the senior vice president of sports programming for HBO, liked what he saw of WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan’s 11th round stoppage victory over Paulie Malignaggi last weekend. In an article by writer Gareth Davies of the Telegraph.co.uk, Davis said “He [Khan] has an extremely telegenic style. Speed sells; Power sells. And he has both in abundance. I was surprised that he was faster than Paulie [Malignaggi]. Paulie adjusted after a few rounds, but his speed even so is very impressive. He’s very fast. It portends to some very exciting match-ups down the road, whether that be [Marcos] Maidana, [Timothy] Bradley or [Devon] Alexander. They are fights I would pay to see as a boxing fan.”

Roach thinks Khan is great for America and great for HBO

Image: Roach thinks Khan is great for America and great for HBOBy Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach is starting to sound like a politician in speaking about his fighter WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) after his 11th round TKO win over Paulie Malignaggi (27-4, 5 KO’s) last Saturday night. It was a long, tough fight and the experience will guide him to bigger and better things. You need fights like this.”

Maybe there’s that possibility. We’ll see what we can work out.” Katsidis, 29, stopped lightweight Kevin Mitchell in the 3rd round last Saturday night in a very impressive performance by Katsidis. He lured Mitchell into brawling with him by moving away from him instead of going directly at him.

Image: The View From U.K Corner: Khan, DeGale, Mitchell, Katsidis, More!By Sean Pollock: No matter what corner of the world you were watching from on Saturday night- it was a great night of boxing! We seen some classy exhibitions of ‘the sweet science’ and some ruthless displays of raw power, each as enjoyable as the other.

Destination- Upton Park, London, UK:

The night started well for Olympian James DeGale (7 –0-0) with a brutal KO in the 5th of Sam Horton (15-1-0) for the vacant ‘WBA International super middleweight title’ and he looks to be maturing nicely into the very competitive division. The stadium was then buzzing with anticipation for the main event after Derek Chisora (13-0-0) made light work with a 2nd round TKO of the Mike Tyson conqueror Danny Williams (41-9-0).

Khan, 23, basically wore the 29-year-old Malignaggi down with jabs and right hands until the fight was ultimately stopped by referee Steve Smoger in the 11th at 1:25 of the round. Ideally, the fight should have been stopped in the 8th round, as Malignaggi was no longer competitive by this stage of the fight.
