Khan tells Kevin Mitchell to “make no more mistakes”

By Sean McDaniel: Amir Khan could have easily raked lightweight contender Kevin Mitchell (31-1, 23 KO’s) over the coals for his 3rd round knockout loss to Michael Katsidis last weekend at Upton Park. Instead, Khan consoled Mitchell, saying “I have heard his preparation and training wasn’t fight and he had a lot of problems beforehand,” in an article at The SunThat was a massive fight for him that would have made him a big star, especially in the States because Katsidis is a big name. But I’m sure he will learn from that and bounce back stronger.”

Why is Katsidis being considered for Khan when Amir thinks he’s a “washed up fighter”?

Image: Why is Katsidis being considered for Khan when Amir thinks he’s a “washed up fighter”?By William Mackay: I was somewhat surprised to learn that Golden Boy Promotions are considering matching WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) up with Michael Katsidis. The reason why is because Khan only last week had this to say about Katsidis: “Katsidis is finished, washed up fighter.” Why would Khan be interested in fighting Katsidis if he thought that he was washed up? That seems kind of unusual, but then again it would be the first time that Khan fought someone who he didn’t think was very good. He fought Andriy Koteknik after saying he didn’t think he was very good.

If I needed some help, I would phone him for advice, but things are going well for me right now.” Indeed, Khan is working with Golden Boy Promotions now in an effort to try and become a huge mega star in the United States like his hero Manny Pacquiao.

Khan looking at fighting in July, possibly against Katsidis or Maidana

By Dan Ambrose: WBA light welterweight champion said he’s looking to fight again in July before the start of Ramadan in August. Khan, 23, is looking at several different opponents right now, two of them being WBO lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis and WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana. The fight that boxing fans want to see is Khan vs. Maidana. However, Maidana has a back injury and it’s unknown whether it will be sufficiently healed by July. It’s a bad enough injury that Maidana had to first postpone and then cancel a fight against WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley.

Ricky Hatton wants to promote Khan rather than fight him – News

By Sean McDaniel: Instead of taking on World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) and making countless millions for both him and Khan, former light welterweight and welterweight champion Ricky Hatton (45-2, 32 KO’s) says he wants to promote Khan. Hatton, who hasn’t fought since being destroyed in two brutal rounds last year in May by Manny Pacquiao, is now a fledgling promoter and having a big named fighter like Khan to promote would likely really help Hatton’s business.

Khan could end up fighting lightweights for the remainder of 2010

By Sean McDaniel: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan says he wants to unify the light welterweight titles after his 11th round TKO win over Paulie Malignaggi last Saturday night. But we may be seeing something completely opposite of that if his promotional team gets through with him. There is talk of the 23-year-old Khan fighting WBO lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis next in July, and provided that Khan gets through that fight without being knocked out again, he could be facing the winner of the WBO lightweight clash between champion Juan Manuel Marquez and former lightweight champion and star Juan Diaz.

Malignaggi considering retirement, talks about Khan loss

By Jim Dower: Just days after being stopped in the 11th round by World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan last Saturday night, Paulie Malignaggi is now sounding like he’s considering retirement from boxing. On his Twitter page, Malignaggi had this to say about the fight and his future: “I honestly don’t know what I will do now, I have a lot of thinking to do, I will take along vacation and re-evaluate life. I’m just happy and blessed that my life turned out the way it did. Will see where the light at the end of the tunnel takes me.”

Impressive Khan shows his true potential

by Liam Fitzgerald: Before Saturday’s fight in New York, I was one of the people who were failing to get excited by the prospect of a Khan-Malignaggi bout. I thought speed vs. speed would make for a dull contest in which Khan would easily roll over Paulie. To a great extent this is what happened but though he didn’t blow Malignaggi out quickly and spectacularly, there were some elements of Khan’s performance that have led me to think he could become a great fighter.

Khan’s father thinks fighters see Amir as a cash cow

By Dan Ambrose Amir Khan’s father Shah Khan thinks that fighters are trying to get too much money for fights with his son, the WBA light welterweight champion. Apparently, Paulie Malignaggi, who Khan recently defeated by a 11th round stoppage last weekend, asked for more money for his fight with Khan and even threatened to pull out of the fight. Although he ended up getting £430,000 compared to Khan’s £650,000, but can you blame him?

In an article by Ron Lewis at Timesonline.co.uk, Schaefer says “We could do a split bill for television with Amir fighting in the UK and then go across to [Juan] Manuel Marquez-Juan Diaz at Mandalay Bay. That would be some double header. I would then like to see the winner of Marquez-Diaz fight face Amir. He has the style Americans love and he can be a big star in the U.S.”
