Fabio Wardley Questions Derek Chisora’s Retirement Advice

By Boxing News 24 Desk - 10/14/2026 - Comments

Fabio Wardley has dismissed Derek Chisora’s prediction that the Daniel Dubois rematch could be his final fight, pointing to the veteran’s own refusal to retire. Chisora makes an easy target, although questioning his credibility won’t help Wardley avoid another punishing night against Dubois.

“This is specially funny coming from Derek who should have retired many a year ago and has still carried on,” Wardley told talkSPORT Boxing.

Wardley can dismiss Derek all day long. When the bell rings, he has to stop Dubois from handing him another brutal beating.

His punch power offers a real path to victory. Dubois gets hit plenty. Wardley doesn’t need to reinvent himself to land something concussive. Catching Dubois early could silence the retirement chatter immediately.

The real test arrives if Dubois weathers the early storm. Wardley can’t trade jabs with Dubois, who controls distance behind a heavier, straighter lead hand. Letting combinations fly creates openings, but staying in the pocket makes Fabio an easy target unless he exits instantly.

Wardley mentioned his camp didn’t add special safety measures, choosing to ramp up workout tempo instead. That comment says nothing about tactical adjustments, since he addressed injury prevention rather than fight strategy.

Training harder in the gym won’t erase the danger Dubois brings. Better stamina might keep Wardley active late, but it won’t stop a stiff jab cracking his nose. It won’t deflect a hard right hand when he steps inside, either.

Chisora lecturing anyone on when to hang up the gloves is rich considering his own track record. Since knocking out Carlos Takam eight years ago, his record has been a parade of beatings at the elite level, interrupted only by narrow decisions over fading names like Kubrat Pulev, Gerald Washington, and domestic gatekeepers.

When Tyson Fury was using him as target practice in their third meeting while the referee practically begged Chisora’s corner to stop it, nobody thought, ‘Now there goes a man with sound judgment on ring longevity.’
