Terence Crawford Predicts Vintage Errol Spence Jr. Against Tim Tszyu

The former rival expects Spence to rebuild his offense behind the jab and disciplined pressure instead of chasing an early finish.

Terence Crawford expects Errol Spence Jr. to rely on the same jab, pressure and ring control that defined his championship run when he faces Tim Tszyu. Crawford also believes Tszyu’s difficulties with southpaws create a favorable tactical matchup for the former unified champion.

“I think Errol, you know, he’s going to come out and try to show something that we haven’t seen in a while. You know, go back to the old Errol working behind a jab, working behind, you know, smart pressure and breaking them down. I think that’s what we’ll see. I don’t think we’ll see a reckless Errol come tomorrow,” said Crawford to Fight Hub TV.

“They got tailor-made styles for each other. You know, I don’t think Tim Tszyu is good with southpaws. Errol not going to have to search for him and he’s not going to have to search for Errol. So, it’s going to make for an exciting fight.”

Crawford’s comments go beyond picking a winner. He described the approach he believes Spence will use against Tszyu, with the jab laying the foundation before gradually applying pressure. It is the same formula that carried Spence through much of his championship run.

That prediction also suggests Crawford doesn’t expect Spence to chase an early finish or abandon his fundamentals after such a long break. Instead, he sees patience and disciplined pressure as the path to success.

Crawford also likes the stylistic matchup. He believes Tszyu’s difficulties against left-handed opponents play into Spence’s strengths, giving the former unified champion a chance to establish his offense from the opening rounds.

Fight night will reveal if that version of Spence still exists after three years away. Crawford believes fans are about to see the fighter who built his reputation behind a sharp jab and steady pressure rather than someone trying to force the action.
