Gervonta Davis Taken Into Custody Two Weeks After Arrest Warrant

Gervonta Davis entered Miami police custody on Wednesday after a warrant was executed, a development that places his boxing career on hold while criminal proceedings move forward.

Miami Gardens police confirmed Davis faces charges of false imprisonment, battery, and attempted kidnapping tied to an alleged October 27 incident at a Miami Gardens club. Investigators allege Davis grabbed a woman by the hair and throat and forced her toward a parking garage away from public view. Police stated that video footage reviewed by detectives supports key parts of the complaint. Bond was set at $16,000.

The woman involved is the same individual who filed a civil lawsuit last year that disrupted Davis’ planned bout with Jake Paul. That delay reshaped matchmaking at the time and pushed Davis off the calendar. This case does the same, but with higher stakes.

From a boxing standpoint, the impact is immediate. Davis had no signed opponent or confirmed date before the arrest. With an active felony-level case and bond conditions in place, state athletic commissions must review eligibility before approving any license application. Promoters do not finalize contracts under those conditions, and broadcasters do not schedule fights without commission clearance.

This situation differs from prior incidents because of the charge set and the existence of corroborating footage cited by police. Attempted kidnapping allegations trigger closer review from regulators, particularly when travel and supervision terms are involved. Even if Davis posts bond, approval to compete remains discretionary.

Davis’ ability remains unquestioned inside the ropes. His availability does not. Until the court process clarifies his status, negotiations stay frozen and sanctioning bodies stay inactive. The division moves on while one of its hardest punchers waits for permission to return.
