Boxing Results: Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez Defeats Jaime Munguia In Las Vegas!

IBF, WBA, WBC, WBO Super Middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, defeated WBC Silver Super Middleweight champion Jaime Munguia over 12 rounds at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.

In the first round Munguia used a jab for half a round while Alvarez ended the round with a combination. In the second round it was all Munguia mostly with his jab. In the third round it was all Munguia. In the fourth rounds final minute a right uppercut from Alvarez on the chin dropped Munguia for an 8-count from Referee Thomas Taylor.

In the fifth round Munguia starts out fast before Alvarez takes over the second half of the round. In the seventh round it was all Alvarez. In the eighth round it was close with Alvarez having a slight edge.

In the ninth and tenth rounds it was all Munguia with little return from Alvarez. In the eleventh round Alvarez came back out landing Munguia. In the twelfth and final round Alvarez finished stronger than Munguia.

Scores 117-110, 116-111 and 115-112 as did KH.

Former WBA Junior Welter champ and current WBC Interim Welterweight champ Mario ‘El Azteca’ Barrios, 29-2 (18), #146 ½, of San Antonio, TX, easily defeated Fabian ‘TNT’ Maidana, 22-3 (16), #146 ¼, of Sante Fe, ARG, over 12 rounds scoring the lone knockdown.

In the first two rounds Barrios kept coming forward but it was Maidana who out landed him. In the third rounds halfway point Barrios landed a jab followed by a right on the chin of Maidana dropping him for an 8-count from Referee Harvey Dock.

In the fourth round Maidana came back well. In the fifth through the eighth rounds Barrios outworked Maidana though it’s him whose right eye is swelling. In the ninth round Barrios hurt Maidana with a body shot. Barrios right eye is nearly closed.

In the eleventh round Barrios continued stalking Maidana who has little in return. In the twelfth and final round Barrios continued winning another round even with his right eye closed.
Scores were 116-111 by all judges.

WBC Interim World Featherweight champ Brandon ‘The Heartbreaker’ Figueroa, 25-1-1 (19), #125 ½, of Weslaco, TX, knocked out former WBO Super Bantam champ southpaw Jesse Magdaleno, 29-3 (18), #128 ½, of Las Vegas, NV, at 2:59 of the ninth round of a scheduled 12 rounds.

In the first rounds final half minute a clash of heads caused a cut on the right eyelid of Magdaleno. In the second round both had their moments with Figueroa switching to southpaw and back.

In the third round Magdaleno had an edge. In the fourth through the seventh rounds Figueroa came back well having Magdaleno against the ropes.

In the eighth round Figueroa hurt Magdaleno with a body shot late in the round. In the ninth round Figueroa landed half a dozen body shots ending with a left uppercut to the body dropping Magdaleno for the count from Referee Allen Huggins.

2016 Olympian and current WBA World Welterweight champ Eimantas Stanionis, 15-0 (9), #146 ½, of Kaunas, LITH, defeated 2012 and 2016 Olympian Gabriel Maestre, 6-1-1 (5), #146 ¾, of Barranquilla, COL, over 12 solid rounds.

In the first two rounds it was all Stanionis outworking a tough Maestre. In the third round Maestre came back well holding his own. In the fourth round Stanionis came back well with a good body attack. In the sixth round Stanionis rocked Maestre with a right in the final seconds.

In the seventh round Maestre was starting to slow down from Stanionis landing a solid jab. In the ninth round Stanionis came back well with body shots.

In the eleventh round Stanionis was still using an effective jab. In the twelfth and final round Stanionis landed four rights to the head of Maestre.

Referee Robert Hoyle. Scores were 117-111, 118-112 and 119-109.

Super Featherweight Jesus ‘El Muno’ Alejandro Ramos, Jr., 21-1 (17), #154 ½, of Casa Grande, AZ, stopped Johan ‘The Chelo Manotas’ Gonzalez, 34-3 (33), #153 ½, of Valencia, VZ, Las Vegas, NV, at 2:56 of the ninth round of a scheduled 10 rounds.

Super Bantamweight southpaw Damien ‘Sugar’ Vazquez, 17-4-1 (10), #122.2, of Las Vegas, NV, was stopped by Alan ‘David Rey’ Picasso Romero, 28-0-1 (16), #123, of Mexico City, MEX, in the fifth round of a scheduled 8.

Super Middleweight William ‘El Indomable’ Scull, 22-0 (9), #167 ¼, of Matanzas, CUBA, Berlin, GER, defeated Sean ‘Silky’ Hemphill, 16-2 (10), #167 ½, of New Orleans, LA, 8 rounds.
