Trainer Derek ‘Bozy’ Ennis is happy with his son, Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, who has signed a promotional deal with Matchroom to fight for Eddie Hearn’s company.

Bozy believes that Matchroom will keep Boots busy to get him back in the ring, fighting often like he’d been doing until this year. The 26-year-old Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs) hadn’t fought since last July when he stopped Roiman Villa in the tenth round.
Boots should have already fought twice since, but with Showtime exiting the boxing busy and PBC signing a new deal with Amazon Prime Video with only a limited number of dates, it was clear that he needed to move on.
Bozy sees all the cards that Matchroom is putting out almost weekly, and he hopes that they’ll keep Boots active. It might not be as easy as that. A lot of the cards that Matchroom puts on are in England, not the U.S. That’s a problem.
Boots Ennis can certainly fight on the cards in the UK, but that won’t help him become a star in the U.S. Hearn matching Boots against British fighters would be a waste, as his popularity won’t increase in the States.
We saw how Hearn matched Demetrius Andrade with exclusively British fighters when he promoted him, and it didn’t help him become a big name.
They’ll still need to pay him well and find contenders willing to fight him. That might be the hardest thing because he’s considered the best at 147. No disrespect to Terence Crawford, but Boots is the man now at 147, and there aren’t many contenders willing to fight him unless they’re getting paid well.

“You can’t be off, like one fight a year or something like that. You ain’t gonna be nothing if you are fighting once a year, your timing is going to be off, everything’s going to be off.”
