Tyson Fury reacted in anger today, firing a salvo at Anthony Joshua on social media for predicting that he’ll lose to Oleksandr Usyk in their rescheduled fight on May 18th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
There’s got to be a fair bit of worry with WBC heavyweight champion Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) after his last showing against Francis Ngannou and with the persistent rumors that he cut himself to buy more time after a dismal training camp for his previous scheduled undisputed championship clash against IBF, WBA and WBO champion Usyk on February 17th.
The Psychology of Truth
Question: Why do people get upset about true things?
Answer: The truth is often less comforting than lies.
Fury’s insecurities, coupled with the rumors of what took place during his training camp, have made AJ’s prediction sting harder, causing the reaction from him. Facing truths is a difficult thing for a person’s self-image and ego.
The reaction is frequently anger rather than the person confronting the bitter truth. What is Fury afraid to confront? Is it age or perhaps the fact that he was never as good as the gullible fans thought he was.
Only Fury and his camp know the real truth of what happened with his sparring and the cut came about. If the rumors are true about Fury getting dropped twice by cruiserweight Jai Opetaia and beaten up by other sparring partners, it’s understandable why he would be angry about Joshua predicting a loss for him.
Usyk vs. Fury: The Build-Up
“Only in AJ’s dreams can Usyk ever beat me. I’ll wipe the floor with both of you bums,” said Fury on Instagram, lashing back at Joshua for his prediction of his demise.
Yesterday, Joshua told iFL TV that he expects Oleksandr Usyk to defeat Fury on May 18th.
“I think Usyk will win. Yeah. I’ve always, well, I don’t if I’ve always said it, but I think Usyk will win,” said Joshua.
