Devin Haney Pokes Fun at Ryan’s Problems: “Free Ry”

By Robbie Bannatyne - 03/04/2024 - Comments

Devin Haney posted his reaction to Ryan Garcia resurfacing today on social media, joking about his paranoid-like behavior, saying, “Free Ry.

Devin’s playful joking about Ryan is likely masking his concern about whether he can keep it together mentally long enough to make it into their April 20th fight on DAZN PPV.

There’s a lot of money at stake for WBC light welterweight champion Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) in this fight, and when Ryan pulls out, that dough will evaporate. If the event isn’t canceled outright, Haney will defend against either Arnold Barboza Jr. or Sandor Martin. Those are not easy fights for Devin, especially Barboza Jr. (29-0, 11 KOs).

Fans Question Garcia’s Mental State

Fans are worried about Ryan’s mental status and general well-being after today’s erratic post. Ryan sounded paranoid, saying on X, “My cards are locked and I’m just really being taken advantage. I can’t get access to my Instagram. All those are lies, and they tried to put me in jail, they’re blocking my cards, I can’t access my money. Nobody is hitting me back. I don’t know what’s going on.”

Some believe that Ryan is showing signs of an episode of Schizophrenia with the way he’s acting, so he must be evaluated to determine whether he’s mentally fit to fight next month against Haney.

Hearn Plays it Cautious

“It was wild. Ryan is behaving a little bit erratically at the moment, but it is a big fight. A lot of attention, a lot of drama, and I’m looking forward to April 20th,” said promoter Eddie Hearn to Fight Hub TV, talking about Ryan Garcia and his recent behavior heading into his clash against WBC light welterweight champion Devin Haney next month on DAZN PPV.

“We want to keep it respectable. Both guys, it’s their sons, so it’s difficult to not be vocal and support your kids,” said Hearn, talking about the arguing between Devin’s dad, Bill Haney, and Ryan’s father, Henry Garcia, during the Los Angeles press conference last week, which overshadowed it.

“They’ve got a lot of history together. During the amateurs, it’s 3-3, and Devin is looking to make it 4-3 on April 20th. I don’t think he’s behaving like the normal Ryan Garcia, and the people close to him will be better judges on that then I will be. Part of that might be selling the fight as well,” said Hearn, when asked about Ryan’s strange post on social media last Sunday.

“So, the people around him, Golden Boy and his family, I’m sure they’ll look after him and make sure he’s okay,” said Hearn about Ryan Garcia.
