Serhii Bohachuk (24-1, 23 KOs) looked like a punching machine, outworking the heavy-handed Brian Mendoza (22-4, 16 KOs) to win a twelve round unanmous decision to win the interim WBC Junior middleweight titles on Saturday night on Prime Video PPV at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Methodical Pressure Earns Bohachuk the Win
The 28-year-old Ukraine-born Bocachuk used nonstop pressure to out-duel Mendoza, who couldn’t match the pace that he set. Mendoza took a lot of heavy shots, falling behind through the first half of the contest.
Down the stretch, Mendoza came out and got the better of Bocachuk, stunning him with a hard punch in the 11th. However, he couldn’t finish him off, and failed to score a knockout in the 12th. The judges’ scores were 118-110, 117-111, 117-111.
With the win, Bohachuk is in position to be elevated to the full champion soon with the WBC.
