‘Pitbull’ Cruz Vows Knockout: “Rolly’s Time as Champ Ends March 30th”

Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz says he will knock WBA light welterweight champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero out of the ring on March 30th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Amazon Prime PPV.

Rolly’s promoters at Mayweather Promotions and management at PBC have picked out a smaller fighter with what some believe is to give him a better chance of holding onto his WBA title.

Obviously, with this being PBC’s debut with Amazon Prime, they couldn’t pick a stiff for Rolly, especially with him being in the co-feature spot on the card, but they’re still giving him his best chance of holding onto his WBA title by selecting the 5’4″ Cruz from the 135-lb division rather than having him defend against his mandatory Ismael Barroso in a rematch.

Cruz (25-2-1, 17 KOs) says Rolly (15-1, 13 KOs) hasn’t improved since his sixth-round knockout loss to Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis in May 2022, and he is going to whip him, take his WBA title, and leave him beltless next month in their clash on the Keith Thurman vs. Tim Tszyu card.

Downplaying Progress in Rolly

“I don’t think much has changed. He’s the same fighter as he is in person,” said Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz to SnowQueenLA about his thoughts on Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero.

Rolly looked worse in his last fight against Barroso than he did against Tank Davis, and he was fortunate the referee Tony Weeks stopped the fight out of the blue in the ninth because he was losing.

“I think it’s typical for him not to be a talker because he really doesn’t focus on fighting, and I think it won’t be any different this time. As you mentioned, I fought well against Tank. I lasted 12 rounds,” said Cruz.

Focused on Victory and Knockout

“I don’t know. I think there’s a reason he’s a champion in two divisions,” said Pitbull about Rolly, without pointing out that Romero wasn’t a true champion at 135, just an interim, which isn’t the same thing as a champion. “We’re focused on beating him.

“I’m getting ready to beat him, and I’m getting ready to win. I’m going to knock him out of the ring on March 30th. I’ve always been a fighter of few words and many punches,” said Pitbull Cruz.

If Cruz does knock Rolly out of the ring, the could steal the show from the headline act between Keith Thurman and Tim Tszyu.
