Superstar Canelo Alvarez will reportedly make a special announcement about his career on Box Azteca, the Mexican TV channel, this Tuesday, February 13th.

The way it’s worded, it almost sounds like Canelo is planning on retiring, which would be a major shock, given that he’s still at the top of his game.

May 4th Opponent – Munguia or Something More?

There’s speculation about whether the 33-year-old undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo (60-2-2, 39 KOs) will reveal the name of his next opponent on May 4th, which will be unbeaten Jaime Munguia.

Salvador Rodriguez of ESPN Knockout reported last Saturday that Canelo is negotiating with Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs) for his next fight.

On social media, fans believe Canelo may announce his retirement, and that’s difficult to believe, considering he has two fights left on his three-fight contract with PBC and will make a lot of money for those two contests.

“The undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Álvarez visits his home TV, Azteca, to make important announcements about his career.

What to Expect?

Canelo will likely announce his next fight, as it’s expected to be a big one for the fans.

There’s been talk on social media that Canelo wants his $35 million for his next fight with PBC to be put in an escrow account before he fights on May 4th.

If those reports are true, it makes one wonder whether Canelo will be fighting in May for PBC if they can’t come up with the money ahead of time for him.

Assuming Canelo were to leave PBC, a return to DAZN would be possible if they could come up with the money for his next fight. He would have to face an opponent that is popular enough to bring in subscribers, and it’s questionable whether Munguia would be the one to do that.
