The Pitbull Hunts for a New Target: Cruz Challenges Ryan Garcia After Davis Disappointment

Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz has turned his attention from his hopeless dream of a rematch against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, which he’s failed to get, towards a fight against Ryan Garcia in April.

Cruz (25-2-1, 17 KOs) insists that Ryan and his promoters want the fight, but Ryan’s manager, Lupe Valencia, doesn’t want it due to his lack of confidence in him. The 25-year-old Pitbull says Valencia wants an “easy fight” for him.

Some believe Pitbull has been intentionally facing weak opposition in the last two years, waiting & hoping for Tank Davis to bless him with a rematch.

Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened, and Cruz is now two years ago. The only thing he has to show for the time he’s been waiting are wins over 40-year-old Yuriorkis Gamboa, Eduardo Ramirez, and Giovanni Cabrera. The Cabrera fight was last July, and Pitbull barely won, edging a twelve-round split decision.

From ‘Tank’ to ‘King Ry’: A Change of Focus

Cruz has been waiting for a rematch with Tank Davis since his narrow 12-round unanimous decision loss in December 2021. However, Tank hasn’t shown any interest in fighting Pitbull Cruz again, which is understandable because he’s done nothing with his career since that defeat to make him marketable.

You can argue that Cruz’s management’s decision to put him in against easy opposition to keep him on track for a rematch with Gervonta has backfired because he’s not faced the A-level opposition and has not been overly active. What Pitbull Cruz needed to do is the following:

  • Stay active, fighting three to four times a year
  • Face quality opposition
  • Be active on social media
  • Give interviews
  • Fight in U.S

Unfinished Business with Ryan Garcia

“This video is to clarify my next match in April. I would like to fight Ryan Garcia,” said Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz to Fight Hub TV. “I want to emphasize that both I and Ryan want the fight.

“Our managers agree, and our promoters also agree. Everyone also agrees this is a great fight. The only reason this fight isn’t happening and the negotiations aren’t finished is because of Lupe Valencia.

“They haven’t agreed for it to take place. Both Ryan and I are ready and focused for the fight. The reason Guadalupe Valencia doesn’t want this fight is because of his confidence in his fighter and is looking for an easy fight.

“I am here to bring trouble for his career. To everyone, Isaac Cruz is ready to beat him in the ring,” said Cruz.
