Hearn Talks Fury-Usyk Bout: “Tyson, You’ve Got to Win This Fight!”

Promoter Eddie Hearn implores Tyson Fury to defeat Oleksandr Usyk in their undisputed heavyweight championship fight on February 17th.

Hearn’s desire to see WBC champion Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) win isn’t without self-interest in mind, as the Matchroom Boxing promoter wants to see his fighter, Anthony Joshua, square off with Tyson later this year for the undisputed.

There’s a lot of good clean cash to make for Hearn & Joshua against the 35-year-old Fury, who looks old and washed at this stage of his career.

Hearn’s Undisputed Dream

“February 17, look, Oleksandr Usyk, I love you, but Tyson Fury, you’ve got to win this fight,” said Hearn to TNT Sports.

“We’ve got to make it happen. Good luck to both. How exciting is it for boxing that we have this path and this plan for the biggest fights in this division.”

Hearn isn’t even trying to hide his business interests, as he’s clearly focused on his dreams of Fury being the one that Joshua faces for the undisputed championship this year.

As this writer mentioned, the loot for the Joshua-Fury fight would be tremendous, even though the fight would be a glorified contest between two faded old guys, neither of which is anywhere close to being the best in the heavyweight division.

Joshua vs. Fury is a bigger money fight than a Joshua-Usyk trilogy match, and it’s also a more winnable fight for AJ. Look at it this way: Usyk has already schooled Joshua twice, and the public interest wouldn’t be there to see a third fight because they’d know that AJ would mentally crumble again.

Undisputed Glory Awaits

Fury will try and do his part to fulfill Hearn’s dreams by taking on the IBF, WBA & WBO champion Usyk (22-0, 14 KO) on February 17th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Unfortunately for Fury, Usyk will likely make a monkey out of him, dominating him with his mobility, quickness, and superior technical ability.

“A good big un always beats a good little un, they always say,” said Gareth A. Davies to Pro Boxing Fans about the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk undisputed championship bout on February 17th.

“Lennox Lewis has told me that he thinks Fury should bull rush Usyk, but I’m not sure he will. I think the conventional wisdom is if Fury is very aggressive against Usyk, he might even stop him.”
