“Big Bang” Targets Parker: Zhang Eyes Explosive Clash in Post-Wilder Era

Zhilei Zhang says he views Joseph Parker as a “good option” for his next fight following his big win last month in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The southpaw Zhang views Parker as a great opportunity for him to destroy the New Zealander, who he views as the “hot” name after his recent upset win over Deontay Wilder.

Zhang vs. Parker would be an ideal fight for Saudi Arabia and a much better fight than any of the heavyweight contests on the recent ‘Day of Reckoning card last December.

The huge punching WBO interim heavyweight champion Zhang (26-1-1, 21 KOs) would like to test his power on the former WBO champ Parker (34-3, 23 KOs).

Will Parker avoid Zhang?

Parker, 31, revitalized his career with a one-sided twelve round unanimous decision against Deontay ‘The Bronze Bomber’ Wilder on the ‘Day of Reckoning’ card on December 23rd, making it look embarrassingly easy.

Boxing fans don’t know what to think about Parker’s win, though, because Wilder barely threw any punches in the entire fight, landing just a paltry 39.

Although Parker and his fans attribute this to his great game plan & defense, the reality is the 38-year-old Wilder couldn’t pull the trigger on his shots the way he once did when he was younger. Age and inactivity had done a number on Deontay.

Zhang is older than Wilder but shows no signs of slowing down, and he would be a danger to Parker, who tends to stress out when put under huge pressure by his opponents.

Zhang = hungry tiger

“[Joseph] Parker might be a good option,” said Zhilei Zhang to Fighthype about wanting to fight former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker next.

“Right now, he’s hot. Everybody is looking at him like he’s really good. If I can’t get any of those guys, then Joseph Parker would be a good option,” said Zhang.

Parker’s management has talked of wanting to get a rematch with Anthony Joshua, which isn’t going to happen. It’s questionable whether they would be willing to go up against Zhang, given how Parker crumbled under the pressure from Joe Joyce.

Zhang is coming off of consecutive knockout wins over Joyce, and that kind of puts things in perspective.
