Boxing results: Robeisy Ramirez Upset by Rafael Espinoza!

2-time Olympic Gold Medalist WBO World Featherweight champion Cuban Robeisy Ramirez lost to the unbeaten Mexican Rafael “El Divino” Espinoza over twelve rounds by majority decision on Saturday night at the Charles F. Dodge City Center, Pembroke Pines, Florida.

Ramirez, 13-2 (8), lost by majority decision to 6’1” southpaw Rafael “El Divino” Espinoza, 22-0 (18) over 12 rounds.

In the first four rounds, the taller Espinoza used right uppercuts against his smaller opponent to gain an edge. In the fifth round’s final seconds, a right uppercut from Ramirez on the chin dropped Espinoza for an 8-count from Referee Christopher Young as the bell sounded.

In the sixth round, Espinoza came back well in a close round. In the seventh round’s final seconds, Espinoza had gone well to the body but got caught with a left on the chin seconds before the bell.

In the eighth and ninth rounds, Ramirez out-landed the aggressive Espinoza. In the ninth round, Espinoza came back holding his own. In the tenth round, Espinoza outworked and outlanded Ramirez.

In the eleventh round, Espinoza continued coming forward and outlanding the smaller Ramirez with uppercuts. In the twelfth and final round, with twenty seconds remaining, Espinoza dropped Ramirez with a combination on the chin for an 8-count from referee Young as the bell sounded.

Espinoza had a cut on the bridge of his nose and an abrasion under his right eye at the end, but what a comeback by the challenger.

Scores were 113-113, 114-112, and 115-111, as did KH.

Featherweight Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington, Jr., 10-0 (6), stopped Jason “El Alacrancito” Sanchez, 16-5 (9), at 2:59 of the second round of a scheduled 10 rounds.

In the second round, Carrington dropped Sanchez for an 8-count. Upon rising, Sanchez was dropped for a second and final time.

In the co-feature, WBO No. 3 ranked super welterweight Xander Zayas, 18-0 (12) stopped Jorge Fortea, 24-4-1 (9) at 1:37 of the fifth round of a scheduled 10 rounds, scoring a pair of knockdowns.

In the first round, Zayas landed a body shot right followed by a left to the chin, dropping Fortea for an 8-count from referee Samuel Burgos, managing to get to the bell. From the second through the fourth rounds, Zayas continued outlanding Fortea, winning every round.

In the fifth round, Zayas dropped Fortea with a 3-punch combination ending with a left hook to the body and down went Fortea for the count from referee Burgos.

Zayas kneeled down and said a prayer in front of his fallen foe, who was on the stool.

Super Lightweight 2020 Olympian Delante “Tiger” Johnson, 11-0 (5), won a split decision over Jimerr “Mortero” Espinosa, 15-2 (14), over 8 rounds.

In the first three rounds, Johnson used an effective jab, having an edge, only getting hit with a right on the chin from Espinosa in the final seconds of the third round.

In the fourth round, Espinosa continued following Johnson around the ring. Both boxers landed punches in the final seconds, with Espinosa getting the better of it. In the fifth round Johnson rocked Espinosa with a right to the chin halfway through the round. Twice, referee Samuel Burgos warned Espinosa for fouls.

In the seventh round final minute, Espinosa rocked Johnson with an overhand right on the chin, having him holding to the end of the round. In the eighth and final round, Espinosa got the better of it, looking for a knockout with Johnson warned for holding.

Scores were 79-73 Johnson, 77-75 Espinosa, and 78-74 Johnson as did KH.

Super Lightweight 2020 Olympian Rohan “El Rayo” Polanco, 11-0 (7), stopped Keith “The Bounty” Hunter, 15-2 (9), at 2:56 of the sixth of a scheduled 8 rounds.

In the second and third rounds, Polanco had his way smiling, landing heavy rights. Polanco ended the third round with a left hook on the chin, hurting Hunter. In the fourth round, Polanco taunted Hunter to fight back besides his jabbing.

In the fifth round final minute, Hunter landed a left hook on the chin, buckling the knees of Polanco. Hunter is the brother of the late heavyweight Michael “Bounty” Hunter.

In the sixth round, Polanco had Hunter out on his feet but fighting back when Referee Christopher Young waved it off, causing Hunter to push the referee, wanting to continue.

Super Welterweight Jahi Tucker, 10-1-1 (5), ended in a majority draw against 2020 Olympian Francisco “Bebu” Daniel Veron, 13- 0-1 (10) over 8 rounds.

Coming off his first loss, Tucker took the first round boxing well, while Veron took the second with more power. In the fourth and fifth rounds, Veron outworked Tucker through a pair of close rounds.

In the sixth round, Veron hurt Tucker in the final minute with a right uppercut on the chin in a close round up until that. In the seventh round, Tucker came back well, having Veron holding on at the bell.

In the eighth and final round, both fighters, looking exhausted, had their moments, with Veron having an edge. The referee was Louis Pabon.

Scores 77-75 Tucker and 76-76 twice, as did KH.

Heavyweight Damian “Polish Hussar” Knyba, 13-0 (7), won a lopsided decision over Michael Polite Coffie, 13-5 (10), over 8 rounds.

In the second round last thirty seconds, Knyba started landing rights, not just jabs, until this point. Coffie, coming off two stoppage losses, is on the defense. In the third round, Coffie, 6’05”, held his own except for getting hurt by a Knyba, 6’07” with a longer reach, who landed a right on the chin in the final minute.

In the fifth round, Coffie only threw two rights, with neither landing, only using it to block the many punches from Knyba. In the sixth round’s opening, Coffie landed a right-left combination and went on defense the rest of the round.

Knyba danced in front of him, landing punch after punch. In the final round, Coffie couldn’t do anything but try to block the jab. Halfway through the round, Knyba rocked Coffie with a pair of rights. Referee Christopher Young.

Scores 79-73 and 80-72 twice as did KH.

Heavyweight southpaw Richard Torrez, Jr. (8-0 (8) stopped Curtis “The Hurt” Harper, 14-11 (9 ), at 2:03 of the 8th and final round.

In the first five rounds, it was all Torrez. In the eighth and final round, Torrez had Harper defenseless when the fight was stopped. Due to a clash of heads, Torrez had a cut over his left eye.
