By Allan Fox: Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford’s trainer, Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre, is currently incarcerated after being arrested on September 4th for having a loaded firearm in his suitcase at the Manchester airport in England. The heavyset American trainer BoMac will be jailed in the UK until his hearing on October 9th.

BoMac had been in England for his fighter middleweight Chris Eubank Jr’s rematch with Liam Smith last Saturday night. McIntyre was attempting to leave the UK on Sunday morning to fly home to the U.S.

The Telegraph is reporting the news of BoMac’s arrest, and it is believed that he’ll be detained until next month on October 9th. How this will impact Crawford’s preparation for his rematch with Errol Spence Jr. is unclear.  That’s an awful lot of time for BoMac to be in jail, given that he’s got a stable of well-known fighters that he needs to train.

The weapon was found when BoMac’s luggage went through a security scanner at the airport. McIntyre was then placed under arrest.

This is a serious matter for BoMac, as the UK has strict laws about carrying a loaded firearm. Obviously, a weapon being discovered at the airport makes it even worse.

The obvious questions about BoMac’s gun arrest:

  • How did BoMac get into the UK with a pistol? Was it not noticed when his luggage was scanned while leaving the U.S., or was this weapon purchased in the UK?
  • Who did BoMac purchase the weapon from? Surely, he couldn’t have quickly bought one from a local shop without an extended waiting period. Was the gun bought from a private individual without the proper paperwork?
  • Did BoMac believe his gun wouldn’t be discovered while his luggage was scanned? It’s obvious that a firearm would be noticed, wouldn’t it?
  • Was the firearm planted in BoMac’s luggage by someone? Could he have been set up by someone wanting to see the great trainer brought down to earth?

BoMac recently rose to fame after Crawford’s victory over IBF, WBA & WBC welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. on July 29th.

Fans & the media have praised BoMac for Crawford’s performance. With that said Spence looked so drained during the fight he likely would have lost to almost anyone in the top ten at welterweight.

Spence had reportedly drained down from 190 during camp and looked like a zombie on the night of the fight with Crawford.

Last Saturday night, we saw a similar situation with the BoMac-trained Eubank Jr. defeating a weight-drained Liam Smith, who revealed after the fight that he’d been weakened from cutting 42 lbs during camp. Smith looked too weak to throw punches and mainly was taking shots all night.
