Boxing Results: Usyk KO’s Dubois In 9!

By Ken Hissner: At the Stadion Wroclaw, Poland, Saturday before 45,000 in the rain with a canopy over the ring former WBA Super World, WBO, IBF and WBC Cruiserweight champion and current WBA Super World, WBO, IBF and IBO World Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk making his second defense of his titles stopped WBA Heavyweight champion Daniel ‘Dynamite’ Dubois scoring a knockdown in the eighth’s final seconds. In the ninth round Dubois was dropped again for a second time in the fight with a solid right jab on the chin from Usyk with Dubois failing to beat the count at 10 forcing referee Labon waving it off without complaint from Dubois.

 Usyk, 21-0 (14), #220.9, of Simferopol, Crimea, UKR, stopped former Commonwealth, WBC Silver champion and current WBA Heavyweight champion ‘Dynamite’ Daniel Dubois, 19-2 (18), #233 ¼, of Greenwich, London, UK, at 0:48 of the ninth round of  12.

In the first round southpaw Usyk outworked Dubois 6-5 with his jab. In the second rounds halfway point Usyk landed a lead left to the chin and repeated this with a minute remaining. Dubois landed a right uppercut with thirty seconds remaining. In the third round just under a minute gone Dubois landed a lead right on the chest of Usyk. Just over the first minute Usyk landed the first combination so far on the chin of Dubois. 28-17 Usyk over 3 rounds connect advantage.

In the fourth round Dubois landed his best punch a right on the chin a minute into the round. This was the first round for Dubois.

Thirty seconds into the fifth a low blow an inch below the beltline from Dubois dropped Usyk. Referee Luis Pabon gave him five minutes to recover. Upon resuming Usyk got on his bike. With half a minute remaining Usyk landed a lead left on the chin getting the attention of Dubois. It was a 43-29 connection advantage for Usyk. In the sixth round Dubois landed a solid left hook to the body of Usyk. Usyk did better at the end. In an outdoor stadium of 45,000 the rain came down hitting the overhead canopy and some of the canvas.

In the seventh round Usyk had Dubois in trouble with a flurry of punches in the final seconds. In the eighth rounds final seconds a right and left combination on the head of Dubois and down went Dubois for an 8-count from referee Labon as the bell sounded.

In the ninth round Usyk landed a crushing right jab on the chin and down went Dubois to a knee. Referee Labon gave him the count as Dubois started up at ten it was waved off without complaint from Dubois. The punch count at the end was 88-47 landed at the end in favor of Usyk. Some ten minutes later before the announcer went to Dubois. Both Dubois and Promoter Warren felt there was no low blow and will issue a rematch.
