Boxing results: Derrieck Cuevas Stops Alberto Mosquera

By Ken Hissner: At the Coliseo de Combates, Pandeportes, Panama City, Panama Friday over ESPN+ promoter Sergio Gonzalez (Master Promotions) Felix Tuto Zabala Jr (All Star Boxing Inc) presented in the Main Event WBA Fedecentro Welterweight champion Derrieck Cuevas stopped Alberto Mosquera in four rounds.

In the co-main event, WBA Gold World Super Middleweight champion Uwel Hernandez knocked out Juan Rodolfo Juarez in two rounds.

In the Main Event WBA Fedecentro Welter champ Derrieck Cuevas, 26-1-1 (18), #149, of Rio Piedras, PR, stopped southpaw Alberto “Metralletra” Mosquera, 28-6-2 (16), #148, of Curundu, PAN, at 2:36 of the fourth round of a scheduled ten rounds.

In the first three rounds, Mosquera had a slight edge outworking Cuevas. In the fourth round, a combination from Cuevas dropped Mosquera for an 8-count.

A left hook opened a cut on the eye of Mosquera under the right eyebrow. Twice the ring physician was brought in, stopping the fight prematurely.

In the co-main event, WBA Gold World Super Middle champ Uwel Hernandez, 16-1 (9), #168, of Havana, Cuba, and Munich, GER, knocked out Juan “Poroto” Rodolfo Juarez, 21-9 (15), #167 ¼, of Bueno Aries, ARG, at 1:48 of the second round of a scheduled 12 rounds.

In the second round, a left to the body from Hernandez and down went Juarez for the count from Referee Guillermo Pineda.

Light Fly Azael “Candelilla” Villar, 19-2-4 (15), #107 ¼, of 24 de Diciembre, PAN, drew with Gerardo Zapata, 14-1-1 (5), #108, of over ten rounds.

In the first three rounds, Zapata outworked Villar. In the fourth round Villar came back well but not enough to take the round. In the sixth round, it was all Zapata having Villar in trouble throughout the round.

In the eighth round, Villar used uppercuts with all inside boxing, outworking Zapata. In the ninth round, Villar picked up where he left off in the previous round taking it to Zapata. In the tenth and final round, Zapata came back well in a close round to outland Villar.

Scores were 96-94 each and 95-95 with 96-94 Zapata KH. Referee was Aida Tajada.

Light Heavy southpaw Yunior “Bronco Man” Menendez, 8-0 (6), #177 ¾, of Havana, Cuba, and Panama City, PAN, defeated Ricardo Miramontes Hernandez, 2-3-1 (2), #176 ½, of Distrito Federal, MEX, over eight rounds.

In the first three rounds, it was all Menendez. In rounds four through six, Menendez kept coming forward, out-landing Miramontes.

In the seventh round, Menendez used his jab and left uppercuts to take the round. In the eighth and final round, Menendez took another round as Miramontes didn’t work hard enough to take a round.

Scores were 80-72 by all and KH.

The referee was Ivan Ballesteros.
