Tyson Fury has rematch clause for Francis Ngannou fight on October 28th

By Jake Tiernan: Francis Ngannou says there’s a rematch clause in his contract for his fight with Tyson Fury on October 28th, which works in favor of ‘The Gypsy King’ if he loses. Ngannou says he must beat Fury to force a rematch.

Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs) adding a rematch clause for a fight against a novice that has never boxed before won’t look good in the eyes of the boxing public, as it shows where his self-confidence is at.

Fans already think Fury lost his nerve & ducked a fight against Oleksandr Usyk for a bigger payday than what he’s getting for the match against the 36-year-old Ngannou.

Ngannou revealed during an interview today that the fight with Fury will be a real pro fight, counting on their records.

Fury has the chance to pick up his 35th pro victory the easy way against a non-boxer.

It’s a similar deal to Floyd Mayweather Jr’s breaking Rocky Marciano’s 49-0 record in a match against former UFC champion Conor McGregor in 2017, which the Nevada Commission sanctioned as a pro fight.

The good thing is Fury’s WBC title won’t be on the line because if that would be happening, it would be taking boxing into the dirt. If a champion can defend against unranked 0-0 novices, where does it end?

Champions could hold onto their belts indefinitely by searching for any non-boxer to ensure they don’t lose. It would be pathetic, but it already is bad enough that the fight will count as a professional match.

“It’s a real fight; it’s going on. The only difference is there’s no title on the line, but it’s a real fight. It’s going on our record,” said Francis Ngannou to Ariel Helwani’s Youtube channel about his fight with WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury on October 28th.

“Yeah, there’s a potential rematch clause. For that one, definitely,” said Ngannou about the rematch clause coming into play if he beats Fury. “That’s what I don’t know. We’ll see how it goes,” said Ngannou when asked if the rematch clause can be used by him if he loses to Fury.

“That’s why I have to win this fight. I have to put everything to get that rematch.

“The [WBC] title is not on the line. Well, that is another discussion. It’s going to take a lot inside the WBC,” said Ngannou when asked why Fury’s WBC title won’t be at stake for their fight.

“In order for this fight to happen for everything [WBC title], there would have been a lot of parties involved, and this fight wouldn’t have happened. So it was like, ‘We have to get this quick and done.’

“I was going for the fight. I wasn’t going for the title. For me personally, nothing changes. I don’t even care [that the WBC title won’t be on the line]. I want the fight, and I get the fight.

“Compared to what I was making for my last UFC fight, it’s day & night. It’s life-changing,” said Ngannou about the purse he’ll be getting for the Fury fight.
