By Ken Hissner: At the AT&T Center, San Antonio, Texas, Saturday over DAZN Oscar De La Hoya (Golden Boy Promotions) presented in the Main Event unbeaten WBA International Lightweight champion Floyd Schofield defeated Haskell “Hackman” Rhodes scoring 3 knockdowns.
In a unification match former 2012 Olympic Bronze Medalist and in a unified world title fight unbeaten WBA and WBC World Flyweight champion Marlen Esparza won by majority decision over WBO World Flyweight champion Gabriela “La Chucky” Celeste Alaniz.
In the Main Event WBA International Lightweight champ Floyd Schofield, 15-0 (11), #134 ½, of Austin, TX, easily defeated Haskell “Hackman” Haskell, 28-5-1 (13), #134 ½, of Las Vegas, NV, over 10 rounds.
In the first three rounds it was all Schofield outworking Haskell. In the fourth round Schofield almost dropped Haskell with a solid jab. In the fifth and sixth rounds Schofield out landed Haskell continuing winning every round.
In the seventh round Schofield dropped Haskell with an uppercut on the chin for an 8-count from Referee James Green. Schofield jumped all over him driving him across the ring and down again for another 8-count. Haskell took Schofield to the canvas. Near the end Schofield dropped Haskell for a third time, but Haskill managed to get to the bell.
In the tenth and final round a clash of heads after a minute caused a nasty cut under the left eye on the cheek of Schofield who managed to get through the round moving away from Haskell.
Scores were 100-87 by all.
In a unification match 2012 Olympic Bronze Medalist and WBA and WBC World Flyweight champ Marlen Esparza, 14-1-1 (1), #111 ½, of Houston, TX, won a majority decision over WBO World Flyweight champ Gabriela “La Chucky” Celeste Alaniz, 14-1 (6), #110 ¾, of
Merlo, Bueno Aires, ARG, over 10×2 rounds.
In the first two rounds Esparza came racing out throwing rights to the chin of Alaniz who counters with a good jab. In the fourth round Alaniz outworked Esparza who was cut outside the left eyebrow. In the fifth and sixth rounds it was close with Alaniz scoring more in an even match.
In the seventh and eighth rounds Esparza continued to start fast with Alaniz finishing stronger.
In the ninth and tenth and final round the action continued in what could be a draw after ten action rounds. Referee was Ellis Johnson.
Scores were 95-95, 99-91 and 97-93 and 95-95 KH.
Former WBC Interim World Light and former IBF World Super Feather champ and Super Light Joseph “Jo Jo” Diaz, 33-4-1 (15), #141 ½, of Downey, CA, defeated Jerry “The Joker” Perez, 14-3-1 (11), #138 ½, of Oak Hills, CA, over 10 rounds.
In the second round Diaz had Perez hurt in the final minute. In the third round Perez came back well enough to have an edge. In the fourth through the sixth round it was all Diaz with a good body attack.
In the seventh through the ninth rounds Diaz continued out landing Perez. In the tenth and final round it was all Perez too little too late with Diaz coming in over weight had little left. Referee Mark Co-loy.
Scores 97-93 twice and 98-92 as did KH
Super Welter Eric Tudor, 9-0 (6), #154 ½, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, defeated Reggie “Rampage” Harris, Jr., 7-4 (3), #162 ½, of Ann Arbor, MI, over 8 rounds scoring a knockdown.
In the first rounds final minute the taller Tudor landed a right on the chin of Harris dropping him for an 8-count from Referee James. In the second round Tudor drew blood from the nose of Harris. Tudor warned several times for low blows. At the third round’s halfway point Harris drew blood from Tudor’s nose with solid jabs taking the round and also the fourth round out landing Tudor. Harris came in 8 pounds over weight.
In the sixth round Harris had Tudors face bloody with combinations.
In the seventh round after a minute Tudor rocked Harris with a left hook. Again thirty seconds later the same thing. In the final minute Tudor knocked the mouthpiece out of Harris. In the eighth and final round Tudor rocks Harris who pushes Tudor to the ropes. Tudor had an edge with his left hooks to the chin in an action packed fight to the end.
Scores were 77-74 and 78-73 twice and 76-75 KH.
Light Heavy Darius “DFG” Fulghum, 6-0 (6), #176 ¼, of Houston, TX, stopped Jeremiah Curtright, 2-2 (2), #178 ½, of St. Charles, MO, at 2:17 of the third round of a scheduled 4.
Heavy Tristan “Sweet T” Kalkreuth, 11-1 (8), #199, of Duncanville, TX, knocked out Joe Jones, 13-9 (10), #200 ½, of Jersey City, NJ, in second round of a scheduled 6 rounds.
