By Dan Ambrose: WBO featherweight champion Robeisy Ramirez congratulated IBF champ Luis Alberto Lopez last Saturday night after his destructive fifth round knockout win over Michael Conlan and then let him know that the two are on a “collision course” to meet up in a unification clash at 126.

Top Rank shouldn’t have problems making the Luis Lopez vs. the two-time Olympic gold medalist Robeisy Ramirez (12-1, 7 KOs) unification match. Lopez’s power and unorthodox fighting style could give the highly technical Robeisy some problems because he’s not fought anyone like that as a pro.

Ramirez looked outstanding recently, beating Isaac Dogboe by a one-sided twelve round unanimous decision last April to win the vacant WBO featherweight title.

Lopez (28-2, 16 KOs) tried calling out the newly crowned WBA featherweight champion  Leigh Wood, who defeated the badly weight-drained Mauricio Lara last Saturday night, but that proved to be futile due to the British fighter’s promoter Eddie Hearn letting thee fans & media know after the fight that he plans to match him against Josh Warrington next.

Warrington is the guy Luis Lopez beat last December, which shows you the confidence level, or lack thereof, that Hearn has in Wood. The 32-year-old Warrington is beltless and perhaps one loss away from career oblivion. Warrington’s record in his last four fights is 1-2-1.

Robeisy has a title defense he needs to get out of the way first for his WBO featherweight belt against Satoshi Shimizu (11-1, 10 KOs) on July 25th at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan. That should be a walk in the park for the talented Cuban fighter.

If Luis Lopez wants to make a fast turnaround in August or September, he’ll need to go in a different direction because Robeisy likely won’t be ready then.

Lopez did a number on the two-time Olympian Conlan last Saturday night, knocking him out with a monstrous right hand uppercut in the fifth round in their headliner at the SSE Arena, Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The 31-year-old Conlan spent too much time in the amateur ranks and needs to consider retiring because he was no match for Lopez. Conlan looked gassed after the fourth round, like many fighters that spend too much time in the amateur system. I

f the fight had ended at that stage, he might have gotten a draw because he was doing reasonably well heading into the fifth.
