By Geoffrey Ciani: Who will win the upcoming showdown between Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Ryan ‘King Ry’ Garcia?
The battle of undefeated prizefighters is taking place on April 22nd from Las Vegas, Nevada, in a bout that will be televised in the US on Showtime PPV. The contest will take place at a contractual catch weight of 136 pounds, which should probably not be an issue for either boxer. It’s a fascinating match-up between two of the top guys competing in the 135-140 pound weight range.
Gervonta Davis is 28 years old, and is known for being a skilled tactician with tremendous punching power. Tank is a former two-time world champion at junior lightweight, and he has also won regular WBA belts at 135 and 140, where he still reigns as the secondary belt holder at lightweight. Davis has won 4 bouts since the start of 2021, including victories against Mario Barrios, Isaac Cruz, and Rolando Romero. In his most recent bout this past January, Davis won by 9th round stoppage against Hector Luis Garcia.
The 24 year old Ryan Garcia holds an undefeated record with 19 of his 23 victories coming inside the distance. Garcia is known for his speed and power and he holds the size advantage going into this one against Tank.
Garcia has won 3 times since the beginning of 2021, including victories against Emmanuel Tagoe, and Luke Campbell, where King Ry overcame an early knock down. In Garcia’s most recent bout last July, Garcia won by 6th round knockout against Javier Fortuna.
So who will win the upcoming showdown between undefeated boxers Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Ryan ‘King Ry’ Garcia?
