Gervonta Davis’ trainer: Ryan Garcia will be entering a “minefield” on Saturday

By Allan Fox: Gervonta Davis’ trainer Calvin Ford says Ryan Garcia will be running through a “minefield,” hoping one doesn’t explode on him this Saturday night if he comes out fighting aggressively, trying to land his trademark left hook like he always does.

Ford questions whether Ryan (23-0, 19 KOs) is willing to put it all on the line by gambling that he can land the only punch in his arsenal before Tank gets to him and lays him out pretty on the canvas.

If Ryan goes for broke, he could get lucky and take Gervonta out before he gets knocked out. That might be Kingry’s only chance.

Unfortunately for Golden Boy Promotions, Ryan only has a left hook. It will be almost impossible to keep Tank Davis off of him unless he can land that shot as he did against his last opponent Javier Fortuna, who he dropped in rounds four, five, and six.

Tank vs. Ryan is headlining on Showtime pay-per-view this Saturday, April 22, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

In the co-feature bout, WBA ‘regular’ super middleweight champion David Morrell (8-0, 7 KOs) defends against Yamaguchi Falcao (24-1-1, 10 KOs). The event goes for $84.99 on DAZN & Showtime PPV.

Is Ryan willing to do that [risk against Tank Davis]? We’re going to all the way fly with this,” said Calvin Ford to Mill City Boxing about Saturday’s Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia fight.

“We know Tank has power, and we know that Ryan has power, but are you willing to see who has the best? We’re willing to do that. In his [Ryan] fights, you ever see him do that against anybody? So it’s going to be brutal if you take that type of chance with us.

“Are you willing to run through a minefield at full speed, and he [Ryan] believes he ain’t going to step on one?

“We went through eight rounds, and he got enough rounds in, so he don’t have no excuse,” Ford said about Gervonta’s preparation. “He’s been watching tapes as we train.

“We’ve been working on so many elements. I just want him to understand that once you step in that ring, you don’t give a f**k. It’s you and Ryan. I just hope the fight gives the expectation that the fans are looking for. The way I look at it, Tank has been in more situations than Ryan,” said Ford.
