Boxing Results: Sebastian Fundora Knocked out by Brian Mendoza!

By Ken Hissner: At the Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson, California, Saturday over Showtime WBC Interim World Super Welterweight champion Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora was knocked out by Brian “La Bala” Mendoza.

In the Main Event WBC Interim Super Welter champ southpaw Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora, 20-1-1 (13), #153.3, of Coachella, CA, was knocked out by WBC No. 17 ranked Brian “La Bala” Mendoza, 22-2 (16), #153.5, of Las Vegas, NV, in 0:39 of the seventh round of a scheduled 12 rounds.

In the first three rounds the much taller southpaw Fundora used his reach to jab his way winning all the rounds. In the fifth round Mendoza managed to get inside Fundora landing some overhand rights. Fundora came right back with left uppercuts drawing blood from the nose of Mendoza.

In the seventh round an overhand right on the head of Fundora followed by a crushing left hook to the chin followed by a right and left on the chin and down went Fundora on the seat of his trunks taking the full count from Referee Ray Corona.

Super Light Brandun Lee, 28-0 (23), #141.3, of La Quinta, CA, defeated Pedro “Roca” Campa, 34-3-1 (23), #141.2, of Hermosilla, Sonora, MEX, over 10 action packed rounds.

In the first three rounds Campa was the aggressor but Lee countered him well enough to have an edge after three rounds. In the third round Lee knocked out the mouthpiece of Campa with a left hook after Campa was having a good round. In the fourth round Lee had Campa hurt from a right on the chin in the final minute.

In the fifth round it was a war as Campa came back well going to the body and head of Lee having him on the receiving end for most of the round. In the sixth round both were throwing bombs as Campa again seemed to have an edge. Campa knocked out the mouthpiece of Lee with a left to the chin in the final seconds of the round.

In the eighth round Lee did well enough to take the round countering well. The right eye of Campa was swelling shut. Lee was marked under his right eye.

In the tenth and final round it was close with the decision on the line as both scored well to the head. Campa may have pulled it out. Referee Jack Reiss.

Scores were 99-91, 98-92 and 97-93 with this writer 96-94.

WBA No. 4 ranked Feather Luis “The Twist” Reynaldo Nunez, 19-0 (13), #125.9, of Puerto Plata, DR, won a disputed decision over Christian Olivo, 20-1-1 (7), #125.4, of Hermosilo, Sonora, MEX, over 10 rounds.

In the first three rounds Nunez had an edge in all competitive rounds. In the fourth round Nunez had a solid round hurting Olivo late in the round with a right on the chin. In the fifth round Olivo continued being the aggressor but Nunez countered him well enough to take another round.

In the seventh round both landed left hooks to the chin midway. In the final seconds Olivo hurt Nunez with a right on the chin. In the eighth round Olivo picked up where he left off dominating the round.

In the ninth round Nunez did better but did all he could just to get through the round. In the tenth and final round Nunez may have pulled it out but it will go to the score cards. Referee was Thomas Taylor.
