Boxing Results: Brian Ceballo Defeats “Lucho” Alberto Veron in New York!

By Ken Hissner: At Sony Hall, in New York, Thursday over DAZN Broadway Boxing, DiBella Entertainment and Larry Goldberg (Boxing Insider Promotions) presented in the Main Event Puerto Rico’s Super Welterweight Brian Ceballo out of Brooklyn, New York defeated former South American champion Luis “Lucho” Alberto Veron out of Bueno Aires, Argentina.

In the Main Event Super Welter Brian Ceballo, 14-1 (7), #152.4, of Puerto Rico and Brooklyn, New York, former South American champ Luis “Lucho” Alberto Veron, 20-6-2 (9), #153.4, of Jose Leon Suarez, Bueno Aires, ARG, 8 rounds.

In the second round Ceballo the aggressor continued outworking Veron who by the end of the round had swelling under his left eye. In the third round Ceballo continued using a good jab with occasional rights mostly to the body of Veron. In the fourth round Veron made it more competitive though not taking the round.

In the fifth round Ceballo took a close round. In the sixth round Ceballo used a left hook following his jab driving Veron back. In the seventh rounds final minute Ceballo hurt Veron with a right on the side of the head. The ring physician came in to check Veron. In the eighth and final round Ceballo continued out landing Veron. Referee Eddie Claudio.

Scores were 79-73 twice and 80-72 as was KH.

Super Light southpaw 2-time Olympian Tsendbaatar Erdenebat, 6-0 (3), #136, of Tsetserleg, Mongolia and L.A., CA, defeated southpaw Edy “Dinamita” Valencia Mercado, 20-10-6 (7), #136, of Culiacan, Sinaloa, MEX, over 8 rounds, for the vacant NABF title.

In the first round both southpaws mostly used jabs with Erdenebat having an edge. In the second round Mercado drew blood from the nose of Erdenebat but still may have lost the fight.

In the third round Mercado continued coming forward taking the round landing more. In the fourth round it was another close one with Erdenebat landing more though Mercado landing the final punch.

In the fifth round Mercado continued chasing Erdenebat who countered him well. In the sixth and seventh rounds it was close with Mercado landing more. In eighth and final round Erdenebat came back well taking the final round. Referee Miguel Rosario.

Scores were 80-72, 78-74 twice and 77-75 KH.

Making her USA debut former WBO Super Fly champ Miyo “Musashi” Yoshida, 16-3 (0), #111.8, of Kagoshima, JAP, and New York, NY, won a close decision over Indeya Rodriguez, 6-7-2 (1) #114.2, of Dallas, TX, over 8×2 rounds.

In the first two rounds Rodriguez had a slight edge outworking Yoshida. Yoshida came back to take the third and fourth rounds finally using her reach.

In the fifth and sixth rounds Rodriguez came back well enough getting under the jab of Yoshida and countering her. In the seventh round Yoshida came back out landing Rodriguez. In the eighth and final round with the fight on the line both had their moments but Rodriguez may have pulled off the upset. Referee Ed Claudio.

Scores were 76-76, 77-75 and 78-74 for Yashima with 77-75 Rodriguez KH.

Light Sydney “The Jackal” Maccow, 9-8 (3), #134.2, of Sint Maarten and Brooklyn, NY, defeated Christian “Veneo” Otero, 5-4 (2), #134.2, of New York, NY, over 6 action rounds.

In the first round of a grudge match since having sparred together it was Otero and the second round Maccow doing the most work. What they lack in skills they make up in effort. In the third round’s final minute Maccow landed a right uppercut on the chin of Otero.

In the fifth round Otero came back well after dropping the fourth round. In the sixth and final round which was the best of the fight Maccow suffered a cut over his left eyebrow. It was close right to the bell. Referee Miguel Rosario.

Scores were 59-55 and 58-56 twice as did KH.

Super Light ‘Lethal’ Larry Fryers, 12-6-1 (5), #143.4, of Clones, IRE, and Yonkers, NY, Joshua “Pretty Boy” stopped David Rivera, 8-3 (3), #142.8, of LaMesa, CA, after 4 rounds of a scheduled 6 rounds.

In the first two rounds Fryers outworked Rivera who did too much holding against the ropes for the most part. In the third round Referee Ed Claudio took away a point from Rivera for hitting behind the head.

In the fourth round the holding by Rivera as Fryers continues to go to the body has the fans looking for action. After half a minute Fryer landed a solid punch to the chin but failed to follow-up. At the end of the first minute Referee Claudio took away another point from Rivera this time for holding. At the end of the round the fight was stopped by Rivera’s corner.

Super Light southpaw 19 year-old “Dynamite” David Lopez, 3-0 (2), #148,6, of Las Vegas, NV, defeated late sub Nelson Morales, 3-6 (0), #148.4, of DR and Scranton, PA, over 4 rounds.

In the first two rounds the taller southpaw Lopez dominated mostly to the body as Morales hands held high did little in return offensively. In the third and fourth rounds Morales was in survival mode as Lopez continued as Lopez outworked him but never hurt him. Referee Miguel Rosario.

Scores were 39-37 and 40-36 twice as did KH.
