Andy Ruiz Jr eager for Tyson Fury fight on July 22

By Jake Tiernan: Andy Ruiz Jr is eager to be the next challenger for WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury on July 22. Today, Ruiz posted a picture of him and Fury on social media today, alerting his fans about this massive money fight.

For Ruiz, it would be a second chance. Many boxing fans saw his career as finished after his lopsided twelve-round unanimous decision loss to Anthony Joshua in their rematch in December 2019.

That was the fight in which Ruiz came into it a fat 283 lbs, and it looked like he hadn’t taken his training seriously. But since then, Ruiz has slowly clawed his way back and is now on the threshold of fighting for a world title against Fury. It could be a new beginning for Ruiz.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says the former IBF, WBA & WBO champion Ruiz (35-2,22 KOs) is the guy they’re looking at for ‘The Gypsy King’ Fury to fight in July.

Yesterday, Eddie Hearn told the media that Fury’s next fight would be against Ruiz on July 22nd before he faces Anthony Joshua or Oleksandr Usyk in December in Saudi Arabia.

Ruiz could be a significant banana skin for Fury because this is not Dereck Chisora, Otto Wallin, or Dillian Whyte-level soft touch for Tyson. If Fury thinks Ruiz will be an easy night’s work, as we saw in his last two fights against the journeymen Chisora and Whyte, he’s in for a reality check.

Fury could get beaten by the combination puncher Ruiz; if that happens, all the money Tyson would have scooped up fighting Usyk or Joshua in Saudi Arabia in December would be gone. Instead, Ruiz would be raking in the dough fighting Usyk or AJ.

“Until it’s signed, let’s not get carried away,” said Barry Jones to Pro Boxing Fans about a fight between Tyson FFury and Andy Ruiz Jr on July 22nd.

“It’s a good fight. If you look at the division, who else is he [Fury] going to fight? If he’s not fighting Usyk or Wilder, who is going in there? People talk about Joyce, but Joyce has been beaten by Zhang. Is it Zhang? Is it Hrgovic? Let’s just see him fight.

“I don’t want to see him boxing Chisora. Pulev’s name has been mentioned, which two years ago would have been an acceptable fight. Now, it’s not an acceptable fight. I think he set a standard up here, so he’s judged in that,” said Jones about Fury.

“That’s where he’s at. I don’t feel sorry for him. He’s earning tens of millions of pounds every time he puts on a pair of gloves. Ruiz is a good fight. If we see it, it would be great.

“That’s a good fight for him. Andy Ruiz is looked at as the fat guy and not aesthetically good-looking in that sense, and it’s an easy fight for Fury. But anyone can be a potentially easy fight for Fury because of the way he fights and how good he is,” said Jones.
