Ryan Garcia only beats Gervonta Davis “by accident” – Jermall Charlo

By Adam Baskin: Middleweight champion Jermall Charlo gives Ryan Garcia a chance to beat Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis on April 22nd in their rehydration/catchweight fight but ONLY by “accident” if he catches the popular former Mayweather-promoted fighter with a lucky shot.

Given the $84.99 PPV price for the Gervonta-Garcia event, it would be great for boxing if Ryan were to pull off the upset because that would set up a massive rematch that would create tons of interest. If Tank wins, as most expect him to, it would be pointless to have a second fight.

If Ryan catches Tank with one of his Jeff Lacy-like powerful left hooks, he will take a long snooze in their fight next month on Showtime pay-per-view on April 22 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Anyone hit with Ryan’s left hook is going down, and Gervonta is no exception.

Like most boxing fans, Charlo views Tank Davis (28-0, 26 KOs) as the guy that will likely win. Ryan hasn’t fought anyone with the punching power of Tank, and his straight-up style will make him an easy target for the power shots from the Baltimore native.

“I think Ryan can pull it off. I think he can pull it off, but it’s going to be by accident,” said Jermall Charlo to Fight Hub TV about his belief that the ONLY way Ryan Garcia defeats Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is if he gets lucky and wins by “accident” on April 22nd.

“It has nothing to do, personally, with Ryan and race or being black, I don’t care about none of that,” Jermall continued. “It is nothing to do with that. I think it is Ryan’s chance to do what he’s got to do. Do I think he will beat Tank? No. But who am I rooting for? Ryan.”

Still, Ryan can win because Tank is badly flawed and another one of many manufactured fighters that promoters are cranking out to make an easy coin.  Tank is arguably just a step above Ryan, who many feel is a creation by Golden Boy Promotions and is a glorified Instagram social media influencer.

With Ryan Garcia’s freakish power & lightning-fast left hook, he’s got a chance of knocking the easy-to-hit, slow-starting Gervonta Davis in the early rounds.

Tank falls behind early against even mediocre and shot fighters like Rolly Romero & Leo Santa Cruz. Those fights showed that Tank isn’t a great fighter but a guy that has taken advantage of the careful match-making that had been done by his former promoter Floyd Mayweather Jr, who steered him away from the talented opposition.

Hopefully, Gervonta vs. Ryan fight lives up to the hype because there will be a lot of angry boxing fans if it turns out to be a dud.
