Jake Paul: Tommy Fury wasn’t that great, Anderson [Silva] was tougher”
By Sam Volz: Jake Paul says he wasn’t all that impressed with the ability of Tommy Fury last Sunday and feels that Anderson Silva was a tougher fight for him.
Jake (6-1, 4 KOs) says he was sick during much of the training camp for the fight with Tommy (9-0, 4 KOs), and he was also jetlagged from the long flight to Saudi Arabia for their eight round bout.
Jake says the fight with Tommy is projected to do over 500,000 pay-per-view buys, which is an incredible number for this era in PPV.
As for whether he’ll move on and fight someone else, Jake confirmed that he wants the rematch against Tommy and will look to avenge his loss in his next fight.
Interestingly, Jake’s brother, Logan Paul, says he wants to fight Tommy to avenge his loss, and that’s something he wants to do.
Jake Paul: “It’s not what it had to do with him. It had everything to do with me,” said Jake Paul to BS/Jake Paul, reflecting on his loss to Tommy Fury. “He wasn’t that great at all. I think Anderson [Silva] was tougher than him, and I figured out that puzzle.
“He threw a lot of punches. That was his biggest thing. It’s good,” said Jake when asked by Logan Paul about Tommy’s power. “He’s definitely blossomed, an overnight superstar. It’s great for him. He’s a good kid. We spoke in the locker room and said, ‘Let’s do the rematch.’ We did a good job of building this fight up.
Logan Paul: “What’s next? Is it Tommy, is it JJ?”
Jake Paul: “I guess the silver lining is the pay-per-views are off the chart. They’re probably going to be the biggest fight of the year. It’s going to be hard to contend with. Maybe [Ryan] Garcia and [Gervonta] Davis. It’s probably coming in at over a half a million [PPV] buys [for Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury].
“So the business is great, and there are still so many names out there for me to fight. I want to do the rematch with Tommy, but I think all of those fights are still there and still massive.”
Logan Paul: “You don’t know which one you’re leaning towards?”
Jake Paul: “I think the rematch [with Tommy]. I got to go get that back. I got to run that back.”
Logan Paul: “If you don’t, I’d like to handle that.”
Jake: “Tommy Fury?”
Logan: “Yeah, that was my first instinct. It’s my little brother, f**k that. Inflatable arm-a**, mother f***ker.”
Jake: “You avenge my loss. I avenge your loss. We start an avenger movie.”
Logan: “Can you imagine that? That would be great.”
Jake: “Don’t worry, I’ll be back.”
