By Sean Jones: Canelo Alvarez is getting royally trashed by fans unhappy with his hand-picked opponent John Ryder for his next fight on May 6th on DAZN pay-per-view at the Akron Stadium Guadalajara, Mexico.
Apparently, Ryder isn’t the fans’ cup of tea, judging by their negative reaction to this pick by Canelo. Choosing Ryder can be seen as part of a slow sinking to the bottom for Canelo, as he’s been doing a good job of destroying his popularity for the last five years, fighting opposition that the fans have no interest in seeing.
You couldn’t think of a worse opponent for Canelo to and his promoter Eddie Hearn to have selected than Ryder (32-5, 18 KOs), as he’s not who they wanted the Mexican star to fight next.
What’s equally bad about this choice is that it will be shown on DAZN PPV, which is difficult to comprehend.
You hate to say it, but Canelo-Ryder is the kind of fight that should arguably be part of a free giveaway week for DAZN, with the streaming giant letting fans get a week of free access as part of their watching this trainwreck.
If undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo (58-2-2, 39 KOs) and his promoter Eddie Hearn thought the fans would welcome his opponent’s choice, they were wrong, wrong, and wrong.
Just a taste of the hatred Canelo getting
He’s fighting another can
Bumnelo, the coward
Another bum. when will he fight Charlo, Andrade, Benavidez or Bivol?
Just how great is Canelo for choosing once again a soft English opponent!
Hahahaha. A fight no one really wants to see.
So intense 😂😂😂 nobody cares about this fight.
This guy is fighting yet another nonhousehold name!
What happened to the rematch against Bivol
Now, why is the so-called face of boxing fighting a guy that lost to 2 guys he already beat? TRASH FIGHT
Why is Canelo even fighting this bum?
I wish whoever this dude is ..knock Canelo out for this bull
Canelo’s Euro bum-bashing tour continues
This dude [Canelo] is a cherry picker.
While Hearn seems to think it was a keen idea for Canelo to fight Ryder, the fans clearly have a different view. It makes you wonder if Hearn bothered to take a poll from fans beforehand. You would think he would do that because this fight will be DOA regarding PPV.
