David Benavidez to fight Caleb Plant in March

By Chris Williams: David Benavidez has let the cat out of the bag by revealing that his management is giving him the Caleb Plant fight in March.

Benavidez told NoCapHighlights podcast that he’s facing former IBF super middleweight champion ‘Sweehands’ Plant (22-1, 13 KOs) in March.

The fight will likely be on SHOWTIME PPV in the U.S, and it could bring in huge numbers even with tons of fans stealing it with illegal pirate streams.

This is the long-awaited monster fight that Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs) has been looking for to unlock the door to King Canelo Alvarez’s golden treasure chest to take his career to the next level.

All the gold bullion that Benavidez has been waiting to scoop up by the bucketful will be available to him once he faces the gold-haired Canelo, but to get that fight, he needs to whip the popular Caleb Plant.

They’re going to give me Caleb Plant in March,” said David Benavidez to NoCapHighlights Podcast.

Plant had been dragging his feet for ages about a fight with Benavidez, but old Sweethand’s win over the 37-year-old veteran Anthony Dirrell on October 15th may have given him the shot of confidence that he’s sourly been missing his entire career.

Unless Plant decides to play it safe by staying away from Benavidez as he’d been doing, the boxing public is in for a huge fight in March, likely on SHOWTIME pay-per-view.

Earlier today, Mike Coppinger revealed that the Benavidez vs. Jose Uzcategui fight that had been planned for January had been scrapped due to the heavy backlash from boxing fans over this albatross-level match that nobody wanted to see.

At that point, there were a lot of fans that were expecting another lesser fighter to be trotted out for Benavidez to massacre in early 2023. Thankfully, Plant has emerged as the option for Benavidez’s next fight in March, which explains why he was so happy last Saturday night.

Plant, 30, needs a big win for him to get a second shot at a big payday against Canelo Alvarez after being knocked out by the Mexican star in the 11th round last November.

Ever since that loss, Plant has been talking about wanting a second shot against Canelo, but he’s not going to get it from knocked out the past his best Anthony Dirrell.

Plant obviously realizes that he needs a huge victory over Benavidez or Jermall Charlo to get the rematch with Canelo. But given that Charlo is off the grid, that leaves only Benavidez, so Plant is forced to bite the bullet and take that fight whether he wants to or not if he wants a second payday against Canelo.
