By: Vince D’Writer – After being stopped in the 12th round by Super middleweight contender David Morrell in the Showtime main event on Saturday November 5, the Kazakh fighter Aidos Yerbossynuly was rushed to the hospital, and the following day, one of his trainers confirmed to ESPN that Yerbossynuly was placed in a medically induced coma following surgery.

Aidos Yerbossynuly came into the November 5 bout as the undefeated challenger, and his opposition was the WBA super middleweight (Regular) champion David Morrell. The 24-year-old Morrell is an up-and-coming star, and the match against Yerbossynuly was expected to be the biggest test of Morrell’s young boxing career.

Morrell started the bout in boxing mode as he used his footwork, and established his jab in the early rounds, but during the course of the later rounds, the Cuban boxer looked like a different fighter. Morrell began to walk his opponent down, fight from inside of the pocket, and land hard accurate power shots on a routine basis.

The results of the accumulation of punishment was displayed on Yerbossynuly’s face as he had swelling around his eyes, and blood streaming from his nose. Despite the fact that he absorbed eleven rounds of punishment in a one-sided affair, Yerbossynuly came out of his corner for the 12th and final round.

At the beginning of the round, Morrell knocked Yerbossynuly down with a straight left hand and after rising to his feet, Yerbossynuly told the referee he wanted to continue. Morrell proceeded to deliver hard shots, and with 0:41 seconds left to go in the round, Morrell landed a devastating right hand that sent Yerbossynuly back down to the canvas, and it officially put an end to the fight.

Referee Tony Weeks helped the boxer up to his feet, and once he got up, Yerbossynuly staggered into the ropes. When Morrell spotted Yerbossynuly falling against the ropes, he assisted the referee in helping his opponent back to his corner.

The fight between David Morrell and Aidos Yerbossynuly was a lopsided bout that probably could have been stopped prior to the 12th and final round. Yerbossynuly was hit with a large number of flush punches and according to the CompuBox, Morrell outlanded Yerbossynuly 237-82.

Boxing is entertaining, but at the same time it’s a high risk sport. A PBC spokesman released a statement to provide as much information as possible in regards to the status of 30-year-old Aidos Yerbossynuly.

“Representatives of TGB Promotions and PBC are on the ground with Aidos’ team and we are monitoring the situation closely. Out of respect for he and his family’s privacy, we can’t share any details, but we ask the boxing community to keep him in your thoughts and prayers.”
