By Vince Dwriter: Six months after her historic victory against Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden, Katie Taylor made her return to the squared circle, and she did it in impressive fashion by defeating Karen Elizabeth Carabajal (19-1, 2 KOs) at the Wembley Arena in London, live on DAZN.

During the course of round one, the hand speed and foot speed advantages that Katie Taylor possessed became evident in a matter of seconds. Taylor was able to use the opening round to establish distance and land some solid shots.

After getting a feel for the proper range required, Taylor started putting her punches together, and as a result, she won the second round by scoring with sharp combinations. Karen Elizabeth Carabajal was trying to get her offense on track, but the undisputed lightweight champion seemed to constantly be one step ahead.

Carabajal’s best round was the fourth round, when she went toe to toe with Taylor during an exciting exchange between the two boxers. Both Taylor and Carabajal stood in the pocket and absorbed solid shots during the exchange. Despite the fact that Carabajal had a few good moments in the fourth, it seemed like Taylor did enough to win the round.

The second half of the fight was a mirror image of the first half as Taylor continued to demonstrate her skills by coming forward with pressure and also doing a masterful job of boxing off her back foot.

The fight proceeded to take the tone of a boxing clinic as Taylor showcased her ability to control the pace and dictate the exchanges.
Karen Elizabeth Carabajal came into the match as an undefeated fighter, but she never had the experience of sharing the ring with a boxer the caliber of a Katie Taylor. Carabajal gave a valiant effort, but Taylor was too fast and too skilled, and as a result, Taylor won the match by way of a unanimous decision.

Katie Taylor (22-0, 6 KOs) admitted Carabajal was awkward, but she was able to adapt and successfully defend her undisputed lightweight crown. Taylor is ready to take her talents back home to Ireland, but she wasn’t definitive when asked if Amanda Serrano would be her homecoming opponent.

“Regardless if it’s Amanda Serrano or not, we want the fight at Croke Park, 80,000 people. It’ll be the biggest event in women’s boxing history.”
