Errol Spence tired of Terence Crawford’s “stalling, could’ve fought in November”

By Chris William: Errol Spence Jr expressed frustration today about Terence Crawford stalling their fight, keeping him out of the ring. IBF, WBA & WBC welterweight champion Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) said he could be fighting in November.

Given the huge time drain waiting for this fight to happen, you can argue that the money that Spence thought he was going to get fighting Crawford isn’t going to be as much as he originally thought because he’s missing out on a fight in November.

I think speak for everyone when I say Spence should cut his losses and bail on the Crawford fight pronto. Spence can then tell his management at PBC to fix him up with a speedy fight in November or December against a hungry contender that is willing to sign the contract quickly rather than stall until Errol is ready for the old folks home.

Spence should have seen this a mile away and focused on fighting guys that his management could negotiate within a timely fashion rather than spending an entire year and wasting his career.

With Crawford 35-years-old, it doesn’t matter wastes a huge amount of time because he’s clearly nearing the end of his career. In Errol’s case, he’s younger and looks like he’s aged far better than Crawford. Errol can’t sacrifice huge blocks of time trying to put together a fight with a guy that probably won’t bring in many PPV buys anyway.

Spence probably thought negotiating with Crawford was going to be a piece of cake, but boy, has this turned out to be a real disaster. But the good news is that it’s not too late for Errol to cut his losses and move on. See it as a learning lesson and put Crawford on permanent ignore.

With the time Spence has invested in trying to negotiate with Crawford, he could have fought twice and made huge bank.

Spence would be better off taking a fight in November or December and then moving up to 154 to challenge Jermell Charlo for all his straps.

Chris Williams’ recommendation is for Spence to pull a Tyson Fury and set a deadline for the Omaha, Nebraska native. Ideally, a two-day deadline would be a good idea for Spence. Tell Crawford to agree by Friday or else.

Some good options for Errol to fight in November:

  • Blair Cobbs
  • Rashidi Ellis
  • Keith Thurman
  • Radzhab Butaev
  • Alexis Rocha
  • David Avanesyan
