Devin Haney & Tank Davis trash talking

By Dan Ambrose: Lightweight champions Devin Haney and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis traded trash talking today on social media.

Tank’s comment from Wednesday about Haney trying to be like him seems to have been the catalyst for unleashing the dogs of war from the Nothern California native.

After Haney called Tank out, he lit into him today about being 27 years old, holding the Mickey Mouse belt [WBA secondary lightweight strap], and the best name on his nine-year resume being Jose Pedraza from way back in 2017.

Tank fired back that he’s making five times more money than Haney, and being treated like he’s the one with all the belts rather than the other way around. Again, Tank accused Haney of trying to be like him.

Of course, all this back & forth trash talking could be remedied if Tank (27-0, 25 KOs) would simply agree to fight Haney (28-0, 15 KOs) because it makes no sense for Gervonta to be fighting beltless guys like Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz, Yuriorkis Gamboa, and Ryan Garcia when he has the opportunity to battle for the undisputed championship against Devin.

Why are they paying me 5x more than you, like I have all the belts? Another thing, stop trying to be me, chump. The people starting to notice,” said Gervonta Davis to Devin Haney on social media.

Showtime’s Stephen Espinoza didn’t say who they’re negotiating with on Tank Davis’ behalf for his December fight, but it doesn’t take a genius to guess that it’s Ryan Garcia. While that’s a good money fight for Tank, it’s not a match that will result in him capturing world titles.

Ryan (23-0, 19 KOs) has never fought for a world title, although he’s had chances to compete for belts. The Golden Boy promoted Kingry is an unproven fighter that has gotten this far by clout chasing and fighting old shop-worn fighters.

Ryan has never fought anyone talented, and he’s gotten where he is today thanks to his huge following on Instagram and YouTube.

Tank would gain a lot more credibility if he fought Haney, Teofimo Lopez, or Vasyl Lomachenko in December rather than Ryan Garcia. Those would be tough fights for Tank, and he could lose. That might be the reason why he’s expected to take on Ryan Garcia because he’s not a threat.
