Teofimo Lopez will “be unstoppable at 140” says Teo Sr
By Brian Webber: Teofimo Lopez Sr says his son Teo is going to be coming back with a vengeance on Saturday night after losing his previous fight against George Kambosos Jr.
Teofimo Sr surprisingly says Teo’s loss to Kambosos didn’t affect him, which is hard to believe because he’s seemed great affected.
Top Rank has picked an easy mark in Pedro Campa in Teofimo’s first fight back. Campa (34-1-1, 23 KOs). It’s a fight that it puts Teofimo in a position where he’s not going to receive much credit because Campa isn’t ranked in the top 15 at 140.
It would have been better if Top Rank showed some confidence in Teofimo by matching him against Regis Prograis, Arnold Barboza, Antuanne Russell, or Jose Zepeda.
“I see him stronger, more mentally focused. With the 140-lb weight division, he’s going to do great things,” said Teofimo Lopez Sr to Fight Hub TV.
“He’s going to look awesome. I know that already. We’re going to put a boxing clinic in there so everybody can see the best Teofimo Lopez. You’re going to see him on August 13th. I can’t wait.
“It’s getting us closer to getting those belts that we want at 140. I see him being undisputed by late next year, 2023.
“To him, it didn’t bother him that much because he knows what happened that night,” said Teofimo Sr about Teo’s loss to George Kambosos Jr.
“If it was a loss to where we really lost to him, I would say we’re in trouble. We beat the best boxer out there in Lomachenko, and he was still feeling a little bit light in that weight.
“He’s going to be unstoppable at 140. We should have left that weight class two years ago and moved on to 140. We decide not to. Those postponements hurt us a lot.
“You’re going to see a Teofimo Lopez that nobody has ever seen. The same thing that happened in the Olympics when he lost. He came back for revenge. He’s very scary when he comes back even stronger,” said Teofimo Lopez Sr.
For Teofimo to be unstoppable at 140, he’s going to need to prove it against better opposition than Campa.
