Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia fight NOT happening, De La Hoya says they’re “Moving on”

By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya said last Saturday night that he’s abandoning his negotiation attempts at putting together a fight between Ryan Garcia and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and will be “moving on” towards another opponent.

According to De La Hoya, no one from Tank Davis’ management answered the phone when he tried to begin talks. Ultimately, De La Hoya says he felt he was being given the run-around, so he’s given up on putting the Davis-Garcia fight together.

If WBA ‘regular’ lightweight champion Tank’s promoters at Mayweather Promotions are interested in putting the fight together with Ryan, they can always reach out to De La Hoya to begin talks. Perhaps Mayweather wants to keep Tank in-house fighting PBC guys?

De La Hoya says he’ll be attending Teofimo Lopez’s fight this Saturday night against Pedro Campa in Las Vegas with the intent of scouting him as a potential opponent for Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) to fight.

Top Rank promotes the former unified lightweight champion Teofimo (16-1, 12 KOs), and it’s unknown if they would be on board with making a fight between him and Ryan so soon after his loss to George Kambosos Jr last November.

Teofimo has looked mentally ruined from that loss, and it might be too much of a risk for Top Rank to put him in with Ryan after just one confidence builder type of fight.

With the huge amount of money Ryan Garcia and Golden Boy can make for a fight against Tank Davis, it’s surprising that De La Hoya would be so quick to abandon his efforts at making a fight between them.

“Zero whatsoever. Hey, we’re trying to get a hold of Tank’s side. We don’t know who to talk to. Nobody picks up their phone, nobody calls back,” said Oscar De La Hoya to ESNEWS about his inability to reach anyone from Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ side to initiate negotiations for a fight with Ryan Garcia.

I feel they’re playing games, so I’m moving on, and I’m going to Teofimo’s fight next week,” said De La Hoya.

As many years as De La Hoya has been promoting, he’s got to know by now the signs of a promoter not interested in negotiating.
