Canelo should be happy Golovkin is fighting him says Tom Loeffler
By Jim Calfa: Promoter Tom Loeffler says Canelo Alvarez should be pleased that Gennadiy Golovkin is fighting him on September 17th in their trilogy match, given the favorable scoring the Mexican star was given by the judges in the first two fights.
Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) was given the kind of scoring that we often see from the judgess in his first two fights against Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs). It’s fair to say that Canelo should be 0-2 coming into the third contest with GGG on DAZN PPV in September at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
All we can hope for is that the judges turn in a set of scores that make sense because for many boxing fans, they seemed out of touch with reality with the cards they handed in for the first two Canelo vs. Golovkin clashes.
“I was surprised at how angry Canelo was. Out of anyone, he should be happy that GGG fought him because of the decisions; he got a lot of love with the judges on those fights,” said Tom Loeffler to Fighthype about Canelo Alvarez being angry during the recent press conference with Gennadiy Golovkin.
“They were very controversial decisions. So Canelo, out of anyone, should be very happy that GGG fought him and he’s coming off a loss. This is a huge fight still for the sport of boxing and one of the biggest trilogies that we’ve seen because both guys have huge fan bases are global superstars.
“When you bring those two fan bases together, you see the success we had for the first two fights. I think you’ll see the same type of energy for the trilogy. I was a little bit surprised that he [Canelo] was angry as he was.
“Gennadiy is looking at this as one more shot to prove that he’s better than Canelo. I think most of the fans and the media saw that, espeically in the first fight.
“In the second if it would have been a draw and GGG kept his titles, I thought that would have been fair, even though I thought he still edged that second fight.
“Canelo taking the titles in the second fight, that’s when Gennadiy got pisssed off. Now, he’s got the ability to prove one more time in Vegas,” said Loeffler.
