Trevor Bryan says Daniel Dubois “is a coward”
By Brian Webber: WBA ‘regular’ heavyweight champion Trevor Bryan weighed in at 259.6 lbs on Friday for his fight against Daniel Dubois on Saturday, June 11th at the Casino Miami Jai Alai, in Miami. The 24-year-old Dubois weighed in at 241.6 lbs.
Bryan (22-0, 15 KOs), who holds the secondary WBA title, weighed in nine pounds less than the 268-lbs he came in at for his title defense earlier this year in January against Jonathan Guidry. Despite the weight loss, Bryan still looked flabby, especially compared to the trim Dubois (17-1, 16 KOs).
Bryan is the underdog in this fight, and many boxing fans are predicting that he gets blown out in one to three rounds. It’s not that the 32-year-old Bryan is a bad fighter.
He’s got some talent, but he’s been well matched by his promoter Don King and has never been in with anyone remotely close to Dubois in the talent department.

“You guys told me I’m the underdog. I said, ‘Geez, you guys got me as the underdog. I’m the heavyweight champion.’ I said, ‘Okay, I understand,'” said Trevor Bryan to BT Sport Boxing.
Bryan is the underdog because he’s been fighting tomato cans his entire career, and he’s taking a major step up in class against a huge puncher in 6’5″ Dubois.
For Bryan to have a chance of winning, he’s going to need to be able to take a lot of huge shots from Dubois, and hope that he can wear him down as Joe Joyce did.
“He’s a coward, a glorified amateur,” said Bryan about his thoughts on Dubois. “They put him in front of big heavy bags, and he does what he’s supposed to do, knocking those guys out.”
“The UK fans and most boxing fans don’t know me as much. I’m a heavyweight champion, and I do hold one of the WBA champions and one of the first original belts as well. Yeah, I am the champion of it,” Bryan continued.
“People have to get familiar with who I am, and I’m here for a long time. I’m in this sport for a long time. So I’m going to be a champion, continue to do what I do, and build my legacy, so this is who I am.
“Because they know who Trevor Bryan is,” said Bryan when told that a lot of top fighters want nothing to do with him. “Fans haven’t seen me on television that much, but within the boxing community, people know who I am because word travels afar.
“So all these champions, they know who Trevor Bryan is. They’re just waiting for this opportunity just like this stage for me to showcase my talent to the world, so everybody will know,” said Bryan.
